The 4th of July Event Los Angeles named a small block in front of Scientology's property "L. Ron Hubbard Way."

In 1999, I saw that the Scientologists were having a 4th of July Street Fair on that public block. The event was open to the public so I went to shoot a little videotape of the event.

What happened when I arrived was far more interesting than I ever expected it could be. I was able to videotape Scientologists "applying the tech" and trying to "bullbait" me into a fight.

Andreas Heldal-Lund in Hollywood The webmaster of www.xenu.net, the most important website critical of Scientology, visited America in 2004. While in Los Angeles he joined in with a few locals for a picket of Scientology.

Joel Phillips runs a website that smears critics of Scientology so when Joel showed up with a cameraman to "interview" Andreas, I decided to capture the event on video.

The first few minutes of part two are missing because I discovered too late that Joel had followed us to Hollywood Blvd to continue his taping.

Clearwater City Commission Meetings In 2000 and 2001, I lived in Clearwater, Florida, a sleepy beachfront town which has become Scientology's mecca. They snuck into town under an assumed name in the late 70's and have dominated the city since. I spoke at several council meetings as did some of my friends and co-workers at the Lisa McPherson Trust.

Scientology: Tory Christman Speaks at CFI Tory spent 30 years in Scientology reaching the upper level course of OTVII. She was well regarded in the group and featured in Scientology publications.

She left Scientology in 2000 and has become one of the most effective voices exposing the abusive and fraudulent nature of the group.

This speech was given before a large crowd at the Center of Inquiry - West in Los Angeles. It was the first time she had made a speech before a large group and it was very well received.

The Tragic Death of Lisa McPherson Lisa McPherson was a Scientologist who told her family and friends she was leaving the church and returning home to Texas. Before she was able to do so, she was held against her will for 17 days in Scientology's lavish Fort Harrison Hotel in Clearwater, Florida. She lost 40 pounds during her captivity and died a horrible death.

Son Of Hubbard L. Ron Hubbard Jr. was at his dad's side through the first decade of Scientology's existence. He left the church and was so embarrassed by his father's legacy that he legally changed his name to Ron DeWolfe, taking his mother's maiden name.

By the early 80's, L. Ron Hubbard Sr. was in hiding in the desert, having let his third wife go to prison with ten other top Scientology officials for covert ops run against the US Government. (google "Operation Snow White)

DeWolfe sued Scientology, fearing his father was really dead and seeking his inheritance. He spoke out in several forums, revealing the fraud he witnessed in the formation of Scientology.

Scientology: Heber vs. Phil 5/14/95 - The wonderfully over the top "president" of Scientology, Heber Jenztsch appeared on the Phil Donahue show. Donahue knows quite a bit about Scientology and does a good job although getting Heber to appear meant agreeing to Scientology's ground rules so no critics appear on the show.

About this user

I've worked in front of and behind the camera for many years in the entertainment and broadcasting fields. I've spent a few years in radio in the Midwest as a morning drive-time host, spinning records, hosting talk shows, doing newscasts, and writing and producing commercials for the station and outside ad agencies.

During this time I also wrote and performed comedy sketches for this station as well as for Wisconsin Public Radio and appeared on stage as a performer in musicals, comedies and dramas.

I moved to Los Angeles to work in film and TV while continuing to perform on stage. Some of my favorite stage roles include Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof" and Pseudolus in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" and I look forward to the day when I can perform in the stage version of "The Producers."

During my years in L.A., I appeared in commercials, voiced animated cartoons and worked for CBS, Paramount, Universal, Disney and others.

Beginning in 1997, I started using my background in film production to help inform people about Scientology's harmful practices. Scientology has not been happy about the exposure. They've attacked me on many fronts starting with a webpage set up to smear my name.

In 1999, I created the website XENU TV which features streaming video about Scientology. The site lay dormant for a couple of years as I moved to Clearwater, Florida to join with Bob Minton and Stacy Brooks at the Lisa McPherson Trust where I produced videos for LMT Media.

While working for the LMT, I traveled to Chicago to film an interview with two dentists who were trying to obtain a large refund from Scientology. To disrupt the interview, Scientology hired off duty police officers who arrested me for trespassing even though I was on a public sidewalk. More than a year later, I stood trial and was acquitted of all charges.

One week after this arrest, I was assisting a German film crew as they shot a documentary about Scientology in Clearwater, Florida. While videotaping, I was attacked by a man who struck my camera with a hammer. The man was ultimately arrested and sent to jail on unrelated charges which were uncovered during the investigation of the hammer attack.

The time I've spent covering Scientology has been, to say the least, interesting.

Since the LMT closed in late 2001, I have been working in TV news. In 2006, I won my first Emmy Award for a story on Border Issues in the San Diego area.
