The film, which will be retitled as Babylon A.D., is set in the not too distant future where humans and cyborgs co-exist. The book tells the story of a Serbian veteran named Thoorop, who is hired to escort a young woman from Russia to Canada. The routine job turns deadly when Thoorop discovers his unbalanced charge might be carrying an artifical virus, as well as technology that an American cult plans to use for the creation of a genetically modified Messiah. The novel was adapted for the screen by Kassovitz and Eric Besnard.

The film, according to today's Variety, will be distributed by 20th Century Fox in North America and non-European territories. Canal Plus will release the film in Europe. (less info)
