Yassin was also released from Israeli prisons on separate occasions (Even from a life sentence).
Israel's Prime minister Ehud Olmert said (in the Knesset).. "Netanyahu established Hamas, gave it life, freed Sheikh Yassin and gave him the opportunity to blossom". Hamas was funded by Israel (to oppose the PLO). Whether or not Hamas are still being funded by Israel is up for debate..
