IF we MUST make a claim for European "purity"...then hands down it goes to the Basques....NOT THE NORSE! IF you look at the human dendrite patterns of ALL homo-sapiens...It is obvious that the Basques were the original Europeans..(not my opinion..just the way it is)...Furthermore, If we measure the Isolative component of the Genes of all Europeans we see very clearly that the Basques have remained "unmixed" the longest of any European tribe...and to this day Basques rarely intermarry with others...Of course this doesnt count for the "celts"...who are genetically Basque on the Y-chromosome...But who show some varience on the X-chromosome (although still predominatly Basque)..(evidently those old basque sailors brought home ladies from other parts of Western Europe to share life on their island homes!) thus the tribal differences we notice between the Scots,Irish, Welsh...etc

Dr. J.F. del Giorgio At some time, between 20,000-13,000 years ago there was a terrible cold episode (Last Glacial Maximum) during the Ice Age. Geneticists believe that not more than a thousand people survived in all Europe maybe only a couple of hundreds. They did it mostly in two enclaves: around the Pyrenees.From there the scarce survivors spread to the rest of the continent. That remarkable common origin left a surprisingly uniformity in European customs and rituals. Those hardy survivors were the Euzkos, related to present Basques. We have an awesome debt to them in art, rituals and traditions. Theater was born through their rituals. The fact that Liberty was a woman for French Revolutionaries, and the hat she used, and the Liberty Pole that American Revolutionaries planted in their town squares to call for assembly, all that is telling us in an unequivocal language where our sense of freedom came from. Basques loved freedom. They could not understand life in other terms. It is changing our view on many supposed migrations. It reveals the ties between peoples the dream of ancient sightseers. Some terrible episodes are known only through DNA tests extinctions or near-extinctions at global or local levels. Lineages, invasions, expansions, the DNA research is throwing light on all those fields. It is difficult to foresee what will follow. Many surprises will come. We are just witnessing the first fruits of the pioneers. Techniques are becoming more and more refined by the day; the number of genetic markers keeps growing and so our understanding of their meanings. Would you please elaborate? Dr. J.F. del Giorgio "Yes. We had invited a colleague to dinner. He and his wife are of Basque origin. I made a joking remark about Basques and Neandertals. My friend looked at me and then asked for a Bible, «with good maps of the Near East»—he added. I produced three different Bibles and a few additional maps. Then I sat in awe at a wonderful, uninterrupted, three-hour lecture about geography and Basque names, and quite a lot of data on the side. I learned that Basque names were always related to places, and that they described the characteristic of the place. Now, the biblical Ur, of the Chaldeans, the birthplace of patriarch Abraham was situated on the river Euphrates in ancient times (now the river does not pass through that place anymore). So, what does the name Ur mean in Basque? Water, and it is quite an adequate name for a Basque city on the margin of a river. He kept pointing at names. Take the valley of Aran, in Israel. Aran means valley in Basque!! It was an astounding trip in time. Lots of names and places followed, and all the time they exhibited an astonishing agreement. Coincidence?
