Strand Releasing was formed in 1989 and its goal has been to fuse quality art films with commercial product. Strand Releasing was honored with a ten year retrospective at the New York Museum of Modern Art curated by Laurence Kardish. Subsequently, the Laemmle Theatres in Los Angeles and the Philadelphia International Film Festival hosted similar programs. Partners Jon Gerrans and Marcus Hu were honored with a lifetime achievement award for Strand Releasing's accomplishments in 2002 from Outfest, the Los Angeles Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.

Strand Releasing has produced or executive produced ten feature films including Gregg Araki's THE LIVING END, Richard Glatzer's GRIEF, Tommy O'Haver's BILLY'S HOLLYWOOD SCREEN KISS, Todd Verow's FRISK, Robert Lee King's adaptation of Charles Busch's PSYCHO BEACH PARTY, Brian Sloan's I THINK I DO, the films of Bruce LaBruce and Paul Cox's INNOCENCE.

This year's slate of films include Fatih Akin's highly acclaimed THE EDGE OF HEAVEN, Andre Techine's THE WITNESSES, Jacques Nolot's BEFORE I FORGET, Doris Dorrie's CHERRY BLOSSOMS, Claude Miller's A SECRET, Ferzan Ozpetek's SATURN IN OPPOSITION and Bruce LaBruce's OTTO.

Strand Releasing also has a home entertainment division which will be releasing a deluxe edition of Gregg Araki's THE LIVING END: REMIXED AND REMASTERED, Tsai Ming Liang's THE WAYWARD CLOUD, as well as Isaac Julian's LOOKING FOR LANGSTON and YOUNG SOUL REBELS.

Strand has distributed the works of such renowned international artists as Manoel de Oliveira, Lino Brocka, Jon Jost, Terence Davies, Gaspar Noé, Lodge Kerrigan, Cindy Sherman, Nigel Finch, Raoul Ruiz, John Maybury, Ferzan Ozpetek, Jacques Audiard, Benoît Jacqout, Hal Hartley, Nina Menkes, Jon Moritsugu, John Duigan, François Ozon, Lou Ye, Marcelo Pineyro and John Curran.

Strand Releasing just celebrated its 20 year anniversary last year at various venues and museums across the country, Strand is headquartered in Culver City, California and is run by business partners and founders, Gerrans and Hu.
