"If you're somebody who likes hip-hop, Irish folk and rock, R&B, reggae/ska, protest anthems, and real phone calls to prank radio hosts, you are about to consume a casserole of cultures that will soon make Seanchai and the Unity Squad a staple on your musical menu."
About Me:

Brooklyn native Chris Byrne had given up his day-time gig as a NYC cop in the Times Square precinct and was rapping with Black '47 when Ireland's 1994 advance to the World Cup inspired him to release the single "C'mon Ya Boyz n' Green" under the name Seanchaí.

The single was met with such excitement in the New York Irish music scene that Byrne (in his persona of Seanchaí) decided to team up with Pat McGuire (of Spéir Mor) and acclaimed fiddle player Eileen Ivers forming Paddy-A-Go-Go. The bands gigs included memorable residencies at Paddy Reilly's Music Bar in New York City and Montauk's Old Shebeen. In 1994 Paddy-A-Go-Go put out their CD, Keep it Reel.

In 1996 Byrne teamed up with former Irish Voice Editor Patrick Farrelly to open New York's Rocky Sullivan's Pub at 129 Lexington Ave. Featuring live music, literary readings, and the best Guinness in New York -- the bar was an immediate success with New York's Irish American cognescenti.

Paddy-A-Go-Go became Paddy-A-Gone-Gone -- McGuire moved on to a successful solo career (Pat McGuire Band), Ivers to a starring role in "Riverdance" while Seanchaí is staying true to his love of hip-hop.

Still living in Brooklyn (right next door to the house in which he grew up) Seanchaí's message to his fans is: "Don't believe the Hype."

Although Seanchaí & the Unity Squad is Dublin-born Rachel Fitzgerald's first official band, she has shared the stage with such talents as Shane MacGowan and the Popes Mary Courtney and Karen Casey. Her hauntingly beautiful voice and wide range of vocal styles -- from traditional Irish chantruse to belting it out ala Aretha Franklin -- should carry her far.

Her musical influences are so eclectic -- spanning Motown, Traditional Irish African and Indian Music, R & B, and Hip-Hop -- that you end up asking what she doesn't like. The answer there would be Pop and Metal, before politely conceding that everyone has different tastes. What brings Rachel joy in life? Cooking, painting, a good row, hanging out and sleeping.

New York native Jason Goodrow has played guitar with an endless string of artists across a wide spectrum of music. He can also be seen occasionally in the window of an Indian restaurant playing sitar.

Some of the acts he is most proud of include:
Eugene Pitt and the Jive V
The Adam Roth Solution
Bob Dorough and Schoolhouse Rock
The Denis Leary Band
episonic
Shane MacGowen (with The Rogues)
Mark Geary
Will Connell
The Dum Dum Project
