The most distant star ever detected no longer exists, a supernova named ESO8802. Observations show that the cluster known as AC118 within which the star existed is at a distance of about 5 billion light-years. Thus this supernova explosion occurred 5 billion (5,000,000,000) years ago, or a few 100 million (100,000,000) years before our sun and solar system were born. The star itself likely existed billions of years prior to going supernova.

A contract being drawn up by my lawyers where on one side we have normal, intelligent, civilized people and the other side are the authors, priests, astrologists, Mayan experts, Nostradamus groupies, and the 'I'm going to believe anything you say' idiot mass herd believing the apocalypse or 'end of days' is coming on or near December 21, 2012.
This contract will generally state that until 2012, those of us who are sane will, to the best of our ability, put up with your idiotic supernatural claims of apocalypse if only for the sake of avoiding another religious based 'you can't prove it one way or the other, what if you're wrong' argument. When 2012 comes and goes, just as every other year does according to the calendar imposed on the world by men, every last one of you are NEVER EVER EVER allowed to engage in, whether written or oral, another conversation holding any intellectual weight at all about ANYTHING. Your opinions on any worthwhile subject matter, at the stroke of midnight 12/31/2012, will officially be dead to the world. You finally screwed up the 'be as vague as possible about everything' stance you've had going in your favor. There is now officially something specific to hold you accountable for, and when this all blows over, you will never be taken seriously for any reason ever again. So live it up until then, thump your bibles extra hard, preach about the coming reckoning and strike your fear into as many fellow dumbasses as you possibly can, because this was your chance.
