About Me:

I am a retired teacher who loves music.
Hometown:
Washington, D.C.- Prince George's County, Maryland, just outside of D.C
Country:
United States
Occupation:
I taught school in Prince Geprge's County for 30 years. I retired in the summer of 1992. My wife and I moved to Hagerstown, Maryland in September, 1995 and lived there for 11 years until we moved to Asheville in June, 2006
Hobbies:
I love all kinds of classical music - opera, operetta, symphonic, choral (especially singing with a choral group, which I have for the past 28 years). I love musical theater, old movies (especially ones with singing) - also light rock and easy listening
Movies:
Right now I'm into any movies starring Deanna Durbin. Old movies such as "asablanca. But also current movies - Milk is one
Music:
I also love baseball, history, art, travel and being with my family and my 6 year old grandson. My favorite singer is Dawn Upshaw with Deanna Durbin right up there. Others are Sumi Jo, Sona Ghazarian (thank you, orfnos) Jennifer Larmore, Sherrill Milnes, Beverly Sills,Mario Lanza, Elizabeth Tryon, Frank Patterson, Richard Tauber, - gosh, just too many to mention all of them. I've sung in choruses of 34 shows -mostly opera, some operetta and American musical theater in Washington, D.C and Maryland between 1982 and 1995. What fun that was! I've sung in choral groups in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, and now here in Asheville, as well as church choir. I am a Christian. Hearing and singing great music is a real spiritual growth experience for me.
Books:
Any book on American history, particularly the U.S. Presidents. Biographies - Adams, Truman, Lincoln.Thomas Wolfe's "Look Homeward, Angel", "Of Time and the River" and others.Other writers, like F. Scott Fitzgerald,.Theodore Dreiser and Carl Sandburg.
