NEADS Tapes: The "Phantom Flight 11 Call" on 9/11
Colin Scoggins, the military liaison at Boston Air Traffic Control (ATC), calls the Northeast Air Defense Sector (NEADS) at 9:21 on 9/11. He tells them there is a third hijacked aircraft, inbound to Washington, but misstates its number (he says it is American 11, it is actually American 77) and position (he says it is NE of Washington, in reality it is SW). American 77 was hijacked before 9:00 a.m., but this is NEADS' first notification of the third hijack, because neither the other ATC facilities nor the National Military Command Center at the Pentagon are providing it with any information. A timeline for Flight 77 can be found here: http://www.historycommons.org/timeline.jsp?timeline=compl... -

NEADS Tapes: "Phantom Flight 11" Second Call
Colin Scoggins, the military liaison at Boston Air Traffic Control (ATC), calls the Northeast Air Defense Sector (NEADS) at 9:24 on 9/11. He tells them there is a hijacked airliner approaching Washington from the SW, not NE, which is what he wrongly told them three minutes previously. He still incorrectly believes it is American 11, not American 77. The plane hits the Pentagon about 13 minutes later after the interceptors are launched in the wrong direction. An operator at the Northeast Air Defense Sector (NEADS) on 9/11 warns other operators to "be careful what we say on the loop, because these are being recorded and these tapes will be handed over." This section is from tape 15, at 37:52, probably about 9:16 a.m. real time. -

When discussing the legacy of a failed presidency, nothing could be more relevant, engaging or important than the series of interviews that David Frost conducted with Richard Nixon in 1977. Following a three-year political silence, the series drew the largest ever TV news audience and granted the American people a tacit admission of guilt from the former president.
With the Ron Howard film (adapted from the Tony Award® winning play) opening in theaters on December 5th, there will be unprecedented interest in the real thing. Frost/Nixon -

NEADS Staff Joke about Second Hijacking on 9/11
Staff at the North East Air Defense Sector (NEADS) learn that a second plane (United 175) has been hijacked on 9/11. They joke about it; we hear them say: "That's it, I'm not flying with United or American any more," "I never thought I would have wished for ValuJet to come back," and "I'm glad I'm not flying today," to which the answer is, "Don't worry Jim, we'll carjack you on the way home." Two minutes later they are talking about stock they own. A timeline detailing the events of the day of 9/11 can be found here: http://www.historycommons.org/timeline.jsp?timeline=compl... -
