I used a Black & Decker 2.4 volt cordless screwdriver and turned it into a generator set to power my Nexus 7 tablet. Since powering the Nexus 7 tablet directly from the cordless screwdriver, now DC generator, would be risky in that I might not keep a steady rpm as I hand cranked the generator and could over-voltage my electronics, thus frying them, I isolated the charging of the double AA batteries before connecting the batteries to the Nexus 7 tablet. First, I charged the double AA batteries connected to my cordless screwdriver, then I transferred those batteries to the battery extender made for the Nexus 7 tablet I bought on eBay for 8 dollars from Honk Kong
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bat.... At some point, I will add a diode in the circuit so I don't have to disconnect the the battery pack before the charge drains off, back through the DC motor. Obviously, the best idea would be have extra charged batteries in the ready, but if you are away from the power grid for days, or the power grid goes down for days, you'll be prepared to make a short burst of emergency power using good old fashioned elbow grease.
