About Me:

The Disability Rights Legal Center (DRLC) champions the rights of people with disabilities through education, advocacy and litigation.

The DRLC was founded in 1975 by friends and colleagues of A. Milton Miller, one of the leading advocates of the disability rights movement in California, and has grown into one of the largest disability rights organizations in the United States. The Center serves people with all types of disabilities, especially those in underserved communities. All of our programs and services are provided at no cost in English, Spanish, and other languages as requested and in alternate formats, i.e. Braille and American Sign Language. The DRLC has been honored with numerous awards, including the 2010 Paul G. Hearne Award from the American Bar Association, and Outstanding Volunteer Organization by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Los Angeles Chapter.

We are deeply committed to community education and empowerment. The Center conducts trainings and publishes "Know Your Rights" guides to help people with disabilities advocate for benefits, services and accommodations. The center also educates businesses, schools, hospitals and other institutions about the disability rights movement, disability rights laws, sensitivity and etiquette. Since its founding, the DRLC has reached well over a million individuals through its community outreach and training events. In addition to education and advocacy, the DRLC offers free legal representation and lawyer referrals to people with disabilities who are facing discrimination.

The DRLC is headquartered in Los Angeles and directly serves people in the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino. The Cancer Legal Resource Center, a joint program of the DRLC and Loyola Law School, is the only national center that provides cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and healthcare professionals with free information and resources on navigating insurance, access to quality care, and other cancer-related legal issues.
