I am fishing in a smaller river and i am having a lot of trouble catching skipjack. I have fished hard for about 3 weeks trying to get them to bite and have only caught one. The first throw i made with a fresh tail peice on i caught my personal best witch was a 27 pound tabby cat. If you have any suggestions on how to catch the skipjack please let me know. The river is very shallow right now but there is deep holes and i see the skip jack jumping at early morning and late evening but cant get them to bite. I have tried all colors and kinds of jigs and the only one i did catch was on a cricket with no weight and just a hook and a weighted cork,

Some would say bullheads are the best Flathead Catfish bait. They have the bad habit of moving to structure that flatheads like to use as primary habitat. Also, about any invasive species study you read, one of the 1st fish to get pressure / decimated is the bullhead catfish population. When you look over the 1000's of Flathead Catfish reports on the USCA data suggest that any live bait will be succesful, and fresh cutbait performs at levels of live bait. Some strictly hardcore Flathead only anglers use nothing but fresh cutbait.
