The bible is inherently bigoted and hate filled. In 2007, there were over two dozen religiously based wars/conflicts in the world. That alone speaks volumes of the rabidly divisive nature of theism.
Most of the instructions we receive as children remain with us for life, and the church has known this all too well. Many therefore cannot reason themselves out of something they never reasoned themselves into as children in the first place. This goes for their religious indoctrination as well as the bigotry that comes along with it.
The hateful Proposition 8 in California was put forth and financially supported solely by various Christian churches and organizations.
Perhaps millions of us have been sentenced to suffer and die from disease only because bible thumpers successfully stalled stem cell research for nearly a decade. Tragic! This is just as they've hampered all human progress throughout recorded history.
They've come far too close in their publicly stated goal of replacing our secular government with a Christian theocracy, and the constitution with the bible.
They continue to want to deprive us of individual freedoms and liberties by forcing us to live as the so-called godly alone decide we must live.
These terrible things and more come as a direct result of our self-imposed silence of criticism in regard to religion since the end of WWII. No more!
Some say I should respect this mind poison of superstition that over the last few decades has suddenly thrust my nation backward toward the dark middle ages with its anti-intellectual, anti-science, and anti-human ignorance. No! There's nothing about religious opinions that entitles them to any more respect than any other opinions might get. In fact, I think silly and crazy beliefs/opinions such as those which emanate from the incomprehensible tripe of the bible deserve quite the contrary.
I am an atheist and anti-theist activist, and shall oppose all theistic religions -- these scourges of humanity -- with all the vigor within me!

"They (religions) all make the same mistake. They all take the only real faculty we have that distinguishes us from other primates and from other animals -- the faculty of reason, and the willingness to take any risk that reason demands of us -- and they replace that with the idea that faith is a virtue. If I could change just one thing, it would be to dissociate the idea of faith from virtue, now and for good, and to expose it for what it is: a servile weakness, a refuge in cowardice, and a willingness to follow with credulity, people who are in the highest degree, unscrupulous." ~ Christopher Hitchens, 9-7-2010
"As long as God occupies a portion of our thoughts, mankind must be content to suffer the hatred and antagonism of man." ~ Joseph Lewis, 1920
"Atheism is more than just the knowledge that gods do not exist, and that religion is either a mistake or a fraud. Atheism is an attitude, a frame of mind that looks at the world objectively, fearlessly, always trying to understand all things as a part of nature. It could be said that Atheism has a doctrine to question and a dogma to doubt. It is the human mind in its natural environment, nothing is too holy to be investigated, nor too sacred to be questioned. The Atheist Bible, it could be said, has but one word: "THINK." Atheism is the complete emancipation of the human mind from the chains and fears of superstition." ~ Emmett F. Fields
