Apostasy

Apostasy means to fall away from revealed truth and we see this happening all around the world as people forsake the truths of the Gospel in order to save their own lives in this world. If great apostasy is one of the signs before the revealing of the Anti-Christ, what should the church be on the look out for to stand against these perversions?

Eternal, Conditional, Security

The Scriptures speak of those who are deceivers, who are false Christians who were never really believers in Jesus Christ. These individuals may also pretend to be true Christians, speaking religious talk, attending church, even doing good works in the name of Jesus Christ when in actuality they are tares.

The Scriptures ALSO talk about those who are true believers, those who enter into salvation and are accepted by God as part of His Body, but then fall away into apostasy.

We MUST let God's word speak for itself to determine when God is speaking of a false believer vs. a true believer who has fallen away; for the Scriptures speak of both. Failure to distinguish this difference will leave you with a warped understanding of salvation and indeed the nature of God Himself.

We are not talking about works here. Salvation is not of works. Yet, it would behoove each Christian to understand the significance and responsibilities of being in a covenant relationship with the living God.

Some assert that salvation in Jesus Christ is eternally, UNconditionally secure. That once someone is saved, they are always saved. Further, they assert that it is impossible to be lost from God after one has been saved. Does God alone bear responsibility for our perseverance in the faith?

But what do the Scriptures say? It we look at the Scriptures for face value, do they support these positions? Or must one twist the Scriptures in order to hold to this view?
