Q: What is a TAS (Tool-Assisted Speedrun)?
A: (copied and slightly edited from Dainegai's Item Abuse TAS description) TASes are recordings of games "formed by constructing an input file slowly over time using an emulator as a tool to overcome human limitations such as skill and reflex, then playing the file back to give the impression that the game is played extraordinarily." Tools such as savestates, frame-advance, and slowdown are used extensively to produce superhuman play.

Q: What emulator do you use?
A: Snes9x 1.51 rerecording v6 (svn r113, with lua51.dll)

Q: How do you record the video?
A: I use Snes9x's built in AVI recorder. I record fully uncompressed frames. Then, I combine the multiple ~2GB files using VirtualDub. After that, I resync the audio using YAAI. Snes9x's built in recorder always desyncs the audio. Then, I use MeGUI to encode it to HD, using the H.264 *scratchpad* codec for video, with all the settings default, and the FAAC *scratchpad* codec for audio, with all the setting default. I also use this AVS Script:

Q: How do you wall jump?
A: You need to have a horizontal velocity of at least 35 and need to collide with the wall at exactly a block boundary. Because the game measures subpixels in 16ths of a pixel, it can be annoying to do that. Since holding the jump button makes you fall slower, try holding the jump button and letting go in various ways until you get it. Once you collide with the wall at a block boundary, you have 1 frame to jump. Jump on that frame and you wall jump. It takes some luck and some trial and error to get it. It also seems to be extremely easy to wall jump off a message block.
