For extra good info on how to EV Train a Pokemon, look at the info bellow!
The following are lists of Pokemon from Serebii.net that detail what Pokemon give what EV Points. If you want to train against a specific Pokemon for specific EV Points, click the following links.
For HP: http://tinyurl.com/yeab6kw For Attack: http://tinyurl.com/yf4q3yc For Defense: http://tinyurl.com/ygozlug For Sp. Attack: http://tinyurl.com/yz56qrb For Sp. Defense: http://tinyurl.com/ylxn7jn For Speed: http://tinyurl.com/yl5znec
POKEMON CANNOT GO OVER 255 EVs FOR A SINGLE STAT
POKEMON CANNOT GO OVER 510 EVs OVERALL TOTAL
Pokemon can only be EV trained if they get experience points in battle. This means a Pokemon that is level 100 can not be EV trained. This also means you can't EV Train when you fight other people or are in the Battle Frontier or other such places.
You are able to get the Power items at the Battle Frontier for 16 BP. In D/P version, it is the same area, where you exchange your BP for items. You can also get the Vitamin stat drinks for 1 BP at these areas as well.
Vitamin drinks do not work if the EVs for a single stat are higher than 100, or if the overall EVs is already 510.
Try to only use the same move over again. This way, if you ever lose track of how many EVs you've gained, look at how many times you've used that single move. If you trained like I did and get 10 EV per battle and it looks like you used the move 11 times, then you have gained 110 EV. You're back on track.
I recommend you only EV train one Pokemon at a time to help keep track of your EVs easier.
EV points are not split like EXP points might be. If all Pokemon on the team are used in a fight against a Pidgey, assuming they don't have PokeRus, Macho Brace, or a Power item of any kind, they still all get 1 EV from it. If they all have PokeRus, ect, they get however many is granted to them by the PokeRus/EV items.
EXP Share can be used to also share EVs.
If you want to EV train a Pokemon that has already been in battles, like a Pokemon you caught at the very start of the game and has been on your team, use the following berries: Pomeg, Kelpsy, Qualot, Hondew, Grepa, Tamato. These work like backwards Vitamin drinks where they take away 10 EV of a stat it is connected with. Keep using them until the game says "Base -CERTAIN STAT- won't go any lower" for all your stats then EV train it fresh.
Players who don't have the Counter Ap or own HG/SS must keep track of their EVs on paper.
"PokeRus" is a rare status effect that doubles all EVs gained automatically. It is very rare to come across PokeRus naturally, so use the GTS instead and trade for some Pokemon. Believe me, with all the hackers out there, a LOT of the Pokemon on there probably have PokeRus. PokeRus has no negative side effects that will hinder you in battle.
PokeRus can be spread to other Pokemon from when a battle ends. And the spreading effects of PokeRus only lasts 24 hours while in the party. If you keep a single Pokemon in your PC Box that has PokeRus, the time factor no longer counts, so always keep a junk Pokemon ready for PokeRus.
When PokeRus has been "cured" on a Pokemon, it just means it can't spread it and can't be infected with PokeRus anymore. However, the effects of earning x2 EVs still applies for that Pokemon.
