CLOVIS -- Toucan "Sam" may not have an original name, but his dietary habits are quite peculiar. You see, Sam eats only the red pieces of food that come in his tri-colored feed.
While the reason still is unknown, we heard about the $5,000 bird, on sale at Pet Extreme, and we thought we'd share his story with our online readers.

Among the characters you're bound to meet during the Renaissance festival season is Adam, who takes his stage persona of "the bawdy juggler" seriously. He tells politically incorrect jokes and plays with fire. He's not that bad at keeping balls and knives in the air, either.
This video was shot at Fresno City College's festival, which took place March 17-18.

MADERA -- Amy Rotella, 26, has made her way into the Nascar Whelen All-American racing series at her "home track," the Madera Speedway. But she has a lot of work to do in order to reach her ultimate goal.
Vying for a spot in Nascar's diversity program, Rotella says she needs to start winning races locally in order to get recognized nationally.
On Saturday, March 31, she failed to qualify for the main race of the evening. Then again, it was the season opener, and she was driving a new car. But if one race doesn't spoil a season, it won't even make a blip on her dream -- to race with the best of the best in the Nextel Cup Series.

On Sept. 30, Valley Pagans celebrated Pagan Pride Day. On Oct. 31, they will celebrate Samhain -- akin to New Year's for Pagans.
In this short film, take a look at Fresno's 2nd annual Pagan Pride Day, designed to, among other things, dispel some of the misperceptions about the religion.
Also, Fresno State anthropology professor Penny Verin-Shapiro discusses the significance of Halloween to those who subscribe to one of the many Pagan faiths.

(Warning: This video contains footage from a recent roller derby match. It may not be suitable for children.)
MERCED -- From Tallahassee to D.C. to Smog City, roller derby is attempting a comeback. Smog City, of course, is the tongue-in-painted-cheek nickname for Fresno's squad of female roller skaters who traveled to Merced this past Saturday to rumble with Stockton, er, Port City's crew.
The match, which literally went to blows, was an exhibition. Fresno's girls are looking to play official games (there are teams in Bakersfield and Sacramento, as well as other cities around the state), but their league still is a fledgling one. The Smog City Roller Grrls (note the two r's) have yet to secure a local venue to hold bouts.
So, how does it all work? According to the program handed out at Merced's Roller Land rink, "each team has five members on the track at one time. There are three types of players, and they line up in the following order: one pivot in front, three blockers in the center and one jammer in the rear." The jammer, who is most likely the team's faster skater, earns points for each opposing player she passes after the initial lap.
But, do you really care about any of that? Or do you just want to see the hits, take-downs (check that, drag-downs) and fights? Judging by the attendees, who each paid a $15 cover, it didn't matter that the score turned into a blowout. The cheering was much more evident when players landed on their backside than when one team's jammer made it around the circle.

This is the deleted scene from the video "Shake, battle and serve."
Mike Osegueda lost the Battle of the Bartenders. His punishment: He has to sing a karaoke song of winner Jarah's choosing. But when the sound system didn't come on, Mike had to do it aghh-capella.
Feel free to watch something else on YouTube after he starts; it only gets worse as it goes on.
