its up to the person if he have intention to go nibbana or not, there is people don't do anything, but general the buddhist lay should seek to nibbana according to buddha, because if we will not seek to go to nibbana, then we will risk to ourselve, because if we violate five precept or not doing will, we will go to the down world animal or hungary ghost or naraka world, in these worlds there is great suffering, so we will not be able to leave samsara!!!! we will be attachment in samsara for thousands years!!!!

every buddhist monk or laymen, there goal to achieve nirvana or nibbana, this the highest state there is no other goal!!!!
