I recently watched the film "the white ribbon" by the austrian director michael hanecke .

this film, an oscar-nominee of 2010 for the best foreign film, portrays the oppression and dysfunctionality in german society shortly before the world war 1 by showing how children were mistreated and brain-washed by their families.

these children became later the perpetrators of the world war 2.

I thought, it was a good parallel to the islamist societies of today.
