Ok, but breaking out of one's prison does not mean becoming emotionless... the main purpose, as I've understood, is to achieve an open, sensitive heart... I've used the words "fight with" because this is how they have been translated in Italian from his book "Wellsprings" when referring to Jesus on the calvary. Tony wrote: "When he fought with his attachments, he won them all". He used the words"fight with" and not "fight against" probably suggesting, if the translation is accurate, an attitude of acceptance and yet of involvement, that's all.

Tony said enlightenment is "absolute cooperation with the inevitable".
my feeling is that pressure (fear, frustration, worry, anger, irritation, disquiet...) is a product of the ego mind, so if Tony was true to what he preached, pressure is an illusion he would see through.

I was not talking about fear, I am pretty sure there wasn't any, just pressure... that came from all his working, travelling and swimming upstream in that period. That's all. Hey Claudia, thanks for yr comment. But it's not only Catholics: does any religion escape?
Pressure on T? Undoubtedly he was hated by church hierarchy & their idol worshipping slaves, but would views from the asylum have affected him?
When I listen I find no sign of this, I sense one who dances to the tune that springs up from within, with perfect love & has consequently cast out fear. Nor do I find any attempt to tone down his words or analogies: eg his joke(?) about becoming pope & his story about the kids & the whore. Poking fun at the church: can't you almost see the steam coming out of Ratty's ears? One could argue, from an establishment perspective: T was asking for it.
How did he die? Under what circumstances? Is the silence not deafening? Where's the autopsy?...
But, actually, although i accept i raised the Q, as T would say, "what does it matter?" T's words are what count.
