About this user

Since the beginning of recorded history, as well as from discovered artifacts left by our prehistoric ancestors, it is known that humans have invented gods to help us deal with fear of the unknown and fear of death. Humans continue to invent and worship god(s) for the same reasons to this very day. How can we expect to deal with the myriad problems that confront our world now and in the future unless we shed our superstitions and confront our problems with critical thinking and reason?

As an atheist on YT, I ask difficult questions of the religious, especially Christians, as I used to be a Christian. I do this not because I hate god. You don't hate something that you believe is a myth. I don't hate Christians either, though what they represent, they as well as all religions, is a very long history of intolerance, hatred, fear, ignorance and a very twisted sense of reality which has in the past and continues to be a danger to the survival of the human race.

The past history of Christianity represents an intolerance of those who do not share their beliefs which has lead to death and destruction of not only innocent children but of entire nations of people. In today's world, Christians do not have the power that once put fear in the hearts of nonbelievers. I believe it is entirely possible, especially in today's world of intensifying involvement of Christians in government and in public life, as well as the involvement of other religions in government, that the religious could potentially become as powerful as in the past. Considering the terrible weapons of war that are now available to us and that could destroy civilization as we know it, I am deeply concerned.

This is why here on YT, as well as in other aspects of my life, I ask tough questions of the religious; the kinds of questions that I asked myself that lead me, many years ago, out of my superstitious, deluded beliefs that I had been raised with. The questions I ask are not intended to insult or demean the religious but to, hopefully, jar them out of their delusions and into reality. In this world we all share, there is much to lose if we do not develop an understanding of the true nature of religious belief, whatever the religion, and an understanding of how perilous it can be.

About me:
Raised Christian but freed myself of superstition by facing reality and realizing prayers are not answered because there is no one to answer them. My hope for the future is that the United States will truly live up to the doctrine of separation of church and state. It would also be progress if people would refrain from using the phrase "god bless" in public as well as other public displays of religious identification.
