I thank you for taking time for my song.
Vocal Guitar Viola de gamba (Fretted viola)
I Will Not Lie To Keep You by Ronald Haselden November 14 2010
Facades, grand promenades, and clever slights of hand Put you on his pedestal, attention on demand These are the hallmarks of the calculating man
But I will not No I will not I will not lie to keep you
Pretty words and sentiments to make you think he's yours Pretense on your battlements to open up your door All planned and planted like a cunning saboteur
But I will not No I will not I will not lie to keep you
The song is sung with a velvet hum And you will fall when the song is done
Go now to him, fair thee well, I won't hold you now Maybe love's wild carousel will bring us back around These are the hallmarks of love that's lost then found
But I will not No I will not I will not lie to keep you

This song is dedicated to my friend Shas. It's only fair, I nearly stole his song title! He quoted part of the first verse on his facebook page too, which was lovely. I don't really play the mandolin but I wrote the song on it so I had to see it through. Sadly I only know three chords on it and the C is a bit dubious. I recorded this on a twenty foot wide strip of rough ground by a field. Not long after, I was moved on by a farmer in a truck for being off the footpath. I'm sure his truck did more damage driving down to move me on but there you go. As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there And that sign said - no tress passin' But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin! Now that side was made for you and me! Spend A Day
Open your eyes and know the sky Open your ears and hear the birds Don't let the seasons get away Don't let the river flow unheard As it makes it way Look for the mole that turns the earth Watch for the oak apple's cause All that is, surely has some worth There's beauty in the beauty and the flaws It can all be yours
So spend a day and spend it well The best the worst the last who can tell Wake up don't you know there's more than coffee here to smell So spend a day and spend it well
There was always more than blue there in your eyes There was always more than sadness in my song Let your life be one long surprise The prize of life's the living for when it's gone It'll really be gone Sleep beneath the moon one summer night Bellow as loud as you can into the dark To smile at the sun is not a crime Give a sigh for each feeling in your heart And a tear for those now gone
So spend a day and spend it well The best the worst the last who can tell Wake up don't you know there's more than coffee here to smell So spend a day and spend it well

Ron Ireland recorded this song in September 2009. The lyrics are from a poem of mine, and Ron said as soon as he read the poem, he heard the song. True musicians are like that - they think and feel music in everything around them. (I cannot write a lick of music.) Ron is a wonderful friend, and I am honored that he wrote such a hauntingly beautiful song for my humble lines.
Ron recently closed his YouTube channel for personal reasons so I will be uploading some of his music to my channel to honor him and to keep his music in the air. Ron Ireland is one of the finest musicians I've ever met, and he is also a wonderfully kind and gracious gentleman.
Ron recorded a LIVE CD in 2010 which you can purchase at the sites referenced below. If you like John Fahey - if you like acoustic music - if you like finger picking guitar - if you like original and intelligent lyrics - if you like a unique and passionate voice --- then you will absolutely love Ron Ireland! Please visit his music on the web and discover him for yourself.
Ron has a live concert tonight in Virginia Beach and I am unfortunately unable to attend. I lovingly dedicate this upload to you, Ron. My heart will be with you tonight, and I am sure your music will be beautifully performed and well received. You are a brilliantly gifted musician. May your music never die.

LYRICS:
"Winter Crows" by Ron Ireland and Suze Scott © 2008, 2010
winter to crows: sing me a spring call from my treetops and in shall ye bring flowers of golden skies made of blue air soft as cotton waiting for you
lay by the bare wheat fields mow down the stark corn no frost on the new grass this newly hatched morn move me to long days around summer's bend until we reach autumn together again
