About Me:

Skinnyfish Music is proud to announce the release of "Gurrumul", the stunning debut solo album for Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu. (Saltwater Band)

Blind from birth, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu is a powerhouse of musical creativity. Geoffrey, or Gudjuk as he is also called, is from the Gumatj nation, his mother from the Galpu nation both First Nations peoples from North East Arnhemland.

A former member of Yothu Yindi, now with Saltwater Band, Gurrumul's solo excursions highlight his amazing talent as a singer, songwriter and musician. His beautiful voice will never leave you as he sings the songs of his Gumatj country. His solo performances are a rare treat and should not be missed. Saltwater Band hail from Galiwin'ku on Elcho Island, North East Arnhemland, and are a much loved and popular Indigenous band, partly because of Gurrumul's influence and guidance. With the release of this, his first solo album, Geoffrey highlights the tremendous talent he has to offer Indigenous music in Australia, and indeed, the world.

One of the most important and beautiful Indigenous albums yet recorded.

I am looking forward to this week's Australian Story on Gurrumul. I think Gurrumul is very brave for taking part in the documentary, and I thank him for it. I have Gurrumul's album, and I have bought it for friends overseas, and I look forward to another album one day if that is possible. Please look after yourself Gurrumul, you have brought so much healing to this hurting land. [wadjela woman, SW WA]

Fantastic! I just ordered your cd. I heard about you via the didj community, so glad I did. I don't speak Yongu, so I hope the cd has translated lyrics. If not, where might I find them?

Geoffrey, keep your music still unplugged with your preciuos voice and guitar in the foreground.

Geoffrey, your delivery comes straight from your soul and I do not need the meanings of lyrics to be moved with your artistry. The God loves you and he knows what for was that delay in your solo artistic work. You bring back the faith that the pure art needs no RP, nor maketing, nor the whole showbisness stuff.
