Second, most mutations are actually neutral because most DNA in any genome does nothing, it's junk DNA. So any change is harmless.
Third, genes are interactive. A mutation may be harmful by itself, but when it combines with another mutation, it may become neutral or even beneficial. In other words, two harmful mutation may cancel each other out.
