Avalanche - Childrens Museum of Pittsburgh - 2009
The sculpture consists of an eight-foot diameter steel disk covered with a mixture of glass beads and garnet sand that can be spun by visitors. The perimeter of the steel disk is rolled inward to create a reservoir for the sand mixture. The avalanching sand naturally organizes into complex patterns of waves suggestive of turbulence in liquids. Viewers can control the speed of the rotating disk and thus increase or decrease the activity and turbulence of the avalanche.

Tipping Wall - Sebastopol Center for the Arts - 2008
Water running down stainless steel cables fills a series of aluminum channels. The channels are supported by ball bearing so that they can tip. As each channel fills with water, it must decide to tip either left or right and spill water into either of the two channels below. Thus the entire array becomes an interrelated web of water decisions. The artwork is a prototype for a surface treatment on a cooling tower in Singapore at the Marina Bay Sands that is currently under construction. At night, lights bouncing off of the water will animate the facade with shifting patterns of shadows from the tilting channels.

Parking Structure 9 - Santa Rosa, CA - 2007
A series of stainless steel cables stretched across the space between two circular access ramps of a parking structure. Hanging from the cables are approximately 20,000 small mirrors that move in the wind and bounce beams of sunlight onto the architecture and pavement below. Resembling a series of parallel spider webs, the artwork is visible from many vantage points inside the parking structure and the courtyard below. Intricate patterns of light and shadow, much like the pattern of sunlight filtering through a canopy of trees in a forest, sweep across the ground throughout the day and change with the wind.

Chain of Ether - ResMed Corporation, San Diego, CA- 2009
A 25-foot tall by 110-foot long, wind-activated artwork that consists of 3960, 9x 9 squares of aluminum chainmail. These hanging panels of metallic fabric are extremely lightweight and responsive to subtle changes in the wind. The kinetic facade extends inside the building and covers a floor to ceiling wall inside the lobby where it is animated by the ventilation system of the building. The artwork was designed in collaboration with Davis Davis Architects in San Diego.
