BD - A History Of The Channel
BD is a film maker and photographer based in Bristol in the UK.
He works exclusively in documenting the arts and artistic processes. As well as freelancing for others he is working on an ongoing personal project to document performers in film. It is this work that you can see here on this channel.
Much of the work here (from October 2008 till now) consists of performances filmed using only one shot. The idea is to break down the film itself so that it is as pure a document as possible. BD is not interested in using film to make something look good, only to document what is already interesting.
One of the first people BD filmed in this way was Dub FX. The films of 'Love Someone' and 'Flow' have received more than 7 million views each and helped to build a large base of subscribers to the channel. Since these early films BD has continued to work with other artists who interest him including many 'Loopers' who create their music with loopstations. Many of the artists have connections with Bristol where BD lives. Of the 90 odd films on the site most feature musicians but there are also dancers, a poet, a collaboration with a painter, a film about the artists mother, a film about an underground station, and a film about a journey through the desert in Australia.
Most recently BD has been producing longer form films with some of the artists with whom he has built relationships.
BD is a member of the Convoy Collective, a group of (mainly) musicians and producers started by Dub FX and CAde to allow artists to have control over the creation and distribution of their own work.
