This song is a bonus track found only on the Japanese release of the CD :"I Dreamed A Dream," "Give Me Wings To Fly" is a popular Japanese song that was written back in the Seventies. Japanese fans requested Susan to record the song for the Japanese release of her CD. The first time I heard it, I thought it was the best track Susan Boyle had recorded and I'm disappointed that it wasn't included on the original CD.
As I listened to the song, I was reminded of "the flight scene" in the Spanish film "Mar Adentro" ("Out To Sea.") The English title of the film is "The Sea Inside". The movie is based on the real-life story of Ramón Sampedro (played by Javier Bardem), a Spanish ship mechanic left quadriplegic after a diving accident. Sampedro fought a 28-year campaign in support of euthanasia and his right to end his own life. In one moving scene in the film, he imagines that he's able to leave his paralyzed body and fly across the country-side to join his friend Julia, whom he has been told has gone for a stroll on the beach. The two actresses in this clip portray Julia and Manuela, Ramon's sister-in-law and caregiver. The actress with the two kids portrays Rosa, a young disc jockey, who falls in love with Ramon and eventually helps him to commit suicide.

Susan's performance begins at 03:53 but I hope the viewer will watch the entire clip. I added the subtitles myself. As for the song, I didn't have to edit a single frame of the video to make the song fit. The song dropped perfectly into place where it is.
The original clip can be seen here, with Nessun Dorma playing throughout: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YDHaZ...
I don't know much about Susan Boyle, but I have read that she cared for her invalid mother for most of her life and fell into a depression following her mother's death. I, too, took care of my mother during the last two years of her life, and know the pain, anguish, exhaustion and depression a care-giver goes through. My mother was nearly totally blind from diabetes and she suffered several strokes which left her totally bedridden. Often times, she spoke longingly of when she was able to see well enough to do crossword puzzles and to sew, her life-long passion. Eventually though, she grew weary of this life and longed to join my father in heaven, who had passed away 12 years before. I think she would have totally understood the sentiment in this song, the longing to just fly away into the sky and leave all the sadness and pain behind.
I dedicate this video to my mother and to all care-givers everywhere.
WINGS TO FLY (Words by Michio Yamagami Music by Kunihiko Murai)
Want to spread my wings and fly Away into the sky How I dream to be so free No more sadness no more pain No more anger no more hate How I dream to have those wings and fly into the sky
If now, I could grant my wish I'd wish to have those wings Those wings just like the birds That fly up in the air
So high up in the air With feathers bright and fair No wealth nor power can make My heart filled with such joy
Want to spread my wings and fly Away into the sky How I dream to be so free No more sadness no more pain No more anger no more hate How I dream to have those wings and fly into the sky
Want to spread my wings and fly Away into the sky How I dream to be so free No more sadness no more pain No more anger no more hate How I dream to have those wings and fly into the sky I'd fly with those wings....
