About this user

I am a retired Further Education lecturer in Information Technology. I grew up in the 1950s & 60s and I regret every day that I'm not growing up now. The internet and technology have so markedly improved the human condition in my lifetime that it's staggering. Still, I wonder what we could accomplish if we weren't so bloody minded and ignorant.

I enjoy learning about art, philosophy, politics, history and science. I collect books; the shelves line the walls of my hallway but I really have no idea how many I own. I enjoy videos by people as diverse as Noam Chomsky and Richard Dawkins. I also play chess and subscribe to many of the chess channels on YouTube.

Although I have lived in the UK since 1984 I was born in the US in the South. I lived most of my adult life in San Francisco and would still call that city my home if pressed, but more in a virtual sense of a particular era or even state of mind rather than a geographical location.

I like cats although I don't own one now and will probably never own another.

My hobby at the moment is writing comments on YouTube which is why I'm finally taking the time to put all this stuff down. I've dabbled in photography, drawing and writing and will probably do so again.
