Rational egoism is discussed by the nineteenth-century English philosopher Henry Sidgwick in The Methods of Ethics. A method of ethics is any rational procedure by which we determine what individual human beings ought or what it is right for them to do, or seek to realize by voluntary action. Sidgwick considers three such procedures, namely, rational egoism, dogmatic intuitionism and utilitarianism. Rational egoism is the view that, if rational, an agent regards quantity of consequent pleasure and pain to himself alone important in choosing between alternatives of action; and seeks always the greatest attainable surplus of pleasure over pain
We should care about the interests of other people for the very same reason we care about our own interests; for their needs and desires are comparable to our own.
Invented Reality: How Do We Know What We Believe We Know?

The process of constructing knowledge regulates itself, and since knowledge is a construct rather than a compilation of empirical data, it is impossible to know the extent to which knowledge reflects an ontological reality.
"And, irrespective of what one might assume, in the life of a science, problems do not arise by themselves. It is precisely this that marks out a problem as being of the true scientific spirit: all knowledge is in response to a question. If there were no question, there would be no scientific knowledge. Nothing proceeds from itself. Nothing is given. All is constructed."
The Realist/Anti-Realist debate can be reduced, in the end, to a conflict of intuitions: "It seems to us that..." vs "Well, it seems to us that..." A realist would not like to construe the argument in this way, and would say that one of these is misled, that one group perceives correctly, and the other perceives incorrectly. Strict constructivists will complain that there is no way to confirm one way or another, since the goal of inquiry (Reality) must be assumed to be understood at the outset. The Realist hope, in a constructivist view, is simply to arbitrarily freeze the infinite circularity that plagues human reasoning which vainly hopes to validate itself with a secure foundation.
Constructivism proposes new definitions for knowledge and truth that forms a new paradigm, based on inter-subjectivity instead of the classical objectivity and viability instead of truth.
Eine Wahrnehmung liefert niemals ein Abbild der Realität, sondern ist immer eine Konstruktion aus Sinnesreizen und Gedächtnisleistung eines Individuums. Deshalb ist Objektivität im Sinne einer Übereinstimmung von wahrgenommenem (konstruiertem) Bild und Realität unmöglich. Ausnahmslos jede Wahrnehmung ist subjektiv.
Welche Stellung habe ich im Ganzen?
Viabilität:
"Dieser Begriff unterscheidet zwischen „einer ikonischen Beziehung der Übereinstimmung oder Widerspiegelung und einer „Beziehung des Passens. Damit ist die Illusion überwunden, dass die „empirische Bestätigung einer Hypothese oder der Erfolg einer Handlungsweise Erkenntnis einer objektiven Welt bedeuten."
Kein Individuum kann die Grenzen seiner persönlichen Erfahrung überschreiten. Die Erkenntnis eines „objektiven Wissens, der Wahrheit, der ontologischen Realität ist daher nicht möglich. Auch wenn viele Menschen die gleiche wissenschaftliche Erkenntnis für sich erfolgreich verwenden, wird diese dadurch nicht objektiv wahr.
So wie ein Individuum sein Bild von der Welt Stück für Stück aus seinen Erfahrungen konstruiert, so kann auch sein Bild/Wissen vom eigenen ICH auf ähnliche Weise aufgebaut werden. In der allgemeinen Erfahrung denken wir bei ICH an die individuelle Identität oder Kontinuität einer Person. Dieses ICH ist Ort allen Erlebens und gleichzeitig etwas aktiv Handelndes. Es kann sich bewegen und so Einfluss auf seine Wahrnehmung nehmen. „In gewissen Grenzen kann es sogar entscheiden, eine Erfahrung zu machen oder nicht.
Jede Person sagt was sie sagt, und hört, was sie hört, gemäß ihrer eigenen Strukturdeterminiertheit; dass etwas gesagt wird, garantiert nicht, dass es auch gehört wird. (...) Das Phänomen der Kommunikation hängt nicht von dem ab, was übermittelt wird, sondern von dem, was im Empfänger geschieht. Und dies hat wenig zu tun mit "übertragener Information".
