Philosophy:

Society today is soft. Most humans in civilized regions of the world are incapable of caring for themselves in difficult situations. In fact, I would guess that most of them would not survive without the continuous supply of goods and services they have become so accustomed to. I will not be one of those people, and you shouldn't either. Through experimentation, training, and learning we can prepare ourselves for a worst a case scenario that we hope to never see. There is a difference between wishing for something to happen, and being prepared for a bad situation. I am not an apocalyptic thinker by any stretch of the imagination; however, I acknowledge the existence of evil and the damage it can cause if mitigation is not undertaken.
The founding fathers recognized the right to keep and bear arms for a specific reason. It wasn't for hunting, although that is what most people either think, or spin to you. They ratified the second amendment because they recognized the existence of evil. Witnessing how evil can corrupt a government they installed the citizens of this country as the final check against its then infantile government. Out of the American revolution came a new style of warfare centered around a state of the art weapon: the Long Rifle. Likewise, it is our responsibility as the stewards of this nation to be trained in the state of the art weapons of and tactics of the day. That is what this project is about.

That being said, you will see many opinions and conclusions here on the VigilantSpectre page. All information seen here, derived or otherwise, represents my view and the views of those participating in the activities at that moment in time. I will do my best to bring you thoroughly researched conclusions; however, everything is subject to change.

About the Channel page and the project:

This project is many things:

First, it serves as a way to document the experiences of my friends and I. We get into a lot of stuff here on this project, some things informative and some things just for fun. I am a strong advocate of doing it yourself--This mentality has brought me the desire to get out there and see what works best. The subject matter of this venture will cover a broad spectrum of topics ranging from gear and weapon reviews to survival techniques and training methods.
The second core function of this channel page is to bring you along for the ride. This will facilitate the transfer of the knowledge that I have acquired through this process to all of you, the viewers. In doing so, I will be arming you with the knowledge you will need to become well-informed, more self-reliant citizens.
Of course the number one goal is to have fun so I will try my best to make my videos as entertaining as possible. Certainly, I am not perfect but I will be doing my best to remain objective and concise.
That being said, video editing takes a great deal of work and time. Please remain respectful. Specifically, if you have a comment about the safety of some of the activities displayed here on the project, thank you for your concern, but please keep it to yourself. We have our own code of safety, all persons involved in the making of these videos are briefed on these rules (Perhaps I will make a video about it since the time limit has now been lifted on the project). This video project is unique and thus requires a unique approach to safety. Please, we know what we are doing, thanks for watching.

A farm boy from small town Ohio originally, I was brought up around dangerous things all my life: guns, knives, heavy machinery, wild animals, you name it. It was in this environment that I developed my do it yourself mentality and the background experience with all things dangerous. I am an avid hunter and I consider myself to be a halfway-decent outdoors man. I am an adamant supporter of the second amendment (and the NRA—if you aren't get that way), a strict constructionist, and I believe that our rights are derived directly from God and that we lend a few of them to the government (not the other way around). I have recently acquired a deep interest in tactical gear, defensive and offensive weaponry, and tactics.
