Politics from a liberal American perspective.
About Me:
I'm a liberal American and I support the Democratic Party. I believe in peace, equality, separation of church and state and environmentalism. All four are necessary for the USA to remain a strong developed nation. I do not support capitalism and I do not support socialism. I support a common sense mixed-economy that incorporates a mixture of government ownership and private ownership.
I am opposed to war unless it is absolutely necessary as a last resort. The War in Iraq is not absolutely necessary, it is wrong and illegal. I am also opposed to the War in Afghanistan. The only good that has come from the War in Afghanistan is the end of the Taliban's control of Afghanistan. Thousands of American soldiers have been killed from the War on Terrorism, as well as millions of innocent citizens of Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. I want U.S. tax dollars being spent for the benefit of the American people. Creating bombs and invading foreign countries is NOT for the benefit of the American people, or anyone else on this planet. The Republican war machine has done much damage to the USA and the world. It is important for all anti-war Americans to protest the Republican Party until they change their party platform and end their hate mongering and desire for war at the expense of the American tax payer.
"I have been thinking that I would make a proposition to my Republican friends... that if they will stop telling lies about the Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them." - Adlai Stevenson (D-Illinois).
I am a major supporter of gay rights, and not ashamed to admit it. I'm "straight but not narrow". Gay marriage is currently legal in Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont. I support gay marriage only and no American liberal or LGBT American should compromise with civil unions, as civil unions are NOT equality. Separate but not equal is not good enough for Americans seeking equality. If you think gay marriage should be legal, then you need to speak up and write to your elected officials and join the effort to help legalize gay marriage in all 50 states.
"As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality." - George Washington.
I support President Obama. I think it is important for all Americans to give President Obama time to deal with the current economic crisis we currently face. Patience is a virtue. As much as I support President Obama, it is also important to remember that NO politician is perfect and worshipping politicians is a dangerous thing to do. President Obama has promised to END the War in Iraq, repeal "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and improve access to health care, among many other things. It is important to keep the pressure on President Obama to live up to his promises.
** As I'm sure you've figured out by now, I am very opinionated. I comment on many videos, and always express my opinion, however I never insult other people for their opinion and I don't respond to hate with more hate as violence will never solve anything **
