Sagar Moktan was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, on March 23, 1993. Perhaps it was the citys architectural beauty, or the magnificence of its natural setting that led him to pursue a career in art. Perhaps it was growing up on the roots of the worlds tallest mountain that set his standards so high. Whatever the reason, Sagar has grown into a most extraordinary young man, and at the tender age of 17 he never ceases to amaze his peers with both his nimble dance moves and his symphonic diction. But where did it all begin, the hunger for music, the yearning for the stage, the undeniable need to have his voice heard? Well, some say music is born with the musician, and that it is reared inside them until the opportune moment when the artist is ready to make an impression. This is eminently true for Mr. Moktan, who regards the rhythmic beating of his own heart as the most profound piece he has produced thus far. He listened to this beat, and studied from it, moving his body with the biological solo to personify his deepest feelings as he experienced them.
Sagar became more serious about dancing when he heard his first hip-hop recording at the age of six, Thats my name by the then Lil Bow Wow. The young man listened closely to how the lyrics flawlessly melded together, how they rode the steady yet spontaneous beat like a seasoned equestrian. He felt the energy it emitted, and it inspired him to do what he did best, and show the world through corporeal expression what the single was trying to say. This became a hobby and a habit, listening to artist after artist, producing physical interpretations of their lifes work. But soon, around the age of eleven, a budding rapper would begin to develop his own opinions, and quickly it became a second passion. A passion, I am fortunate to say, that has remained to this very day.
My Parents and my brother inspire me the most, they have always been there for me and my dreams. Sagar is a vehement advocate of dreams. He believes that without them, one wonders through life a zombiesque shell of a human being. That is why it has always been his self-imposed duty to accomplish his own. But what does that entail, exactly? Well, only the artist can say:
My plans for the future are to make it into the industry as a unique artist with a whole different flavor of music. I want my music to be part of an everyday basis, I want people to relate to my stories and feel what I'm going through, and understand my hunger for my music.
