I have never had any lessons (ok, except 4 piano lessons at the age of twelve). I have started playing keys at about 3 years and I seriously started playing the guitar at about 13.
It was all learning by doing...

For my personal taste the perfect guitarist has to consist of:

40% feeling
30% technique (like speed, accuracy & timing)
30% Fire & energy
