I wasn't really a Katy Perry fan but when I watched the music video of her song "Firework", my appreciation for her started to blossom, maybe not as a singer but her being a song writer. I covered this song not because I'm selling out, but because her song really inspired me. And when people tell me I'm not good enough, I would just recall the lyrics of this song.
This song talks about overcoming hate and insecurity, as our world is so full of it right now. There are lots of bullies in schools. Some start being a bully and getting bullied as early as elementary. When you step into high school things get worse. Even outside our life as a student.
I was once a bullied in elementary. I accidentally said a bad word, as a joke, and my classmate (who was an immature ass) heard me. He told me "I'm gonna tell our teacher that you cursed in class!". Most students were afraid of the said teacher because she would poke your lips when you swear in class, my classmates whose lips were poked said it hurt like heck.
Of course, as young and naive as I was, I got scared. So, I asked the bully to not tell on me. But, him not telling on me had it's price. He then said "Starting tomorrow you will give me packed snacks and do whatever I request." Of course, that went on for a while.
I got tired of his crap and I stopped giving him snacks and he threatened to tell on me. Because of that I started skipping classes. It affected my grades. YES, I was a weakling back then.
But, I saw a spark in me, all I had to do was to ignite the light. And then, the spark turned into a full-fledged firework. Now I'm stronger, and I don't take crap from anybody.
Being a bully and being bullied is just a phase in our lives. It will pass, and everything will get better. As long as you don't give up and make the right choices. There's always hope for all of us.
