adamclark1972uk As the devil the spoke through the serpent then yes, the serpent was talking. I think we have established this now. Revelation 12:9 and 20:2 both refer to the devil as 'that ancient serpent'. It isn't a metaphor, it is an account of the fall of mankind.

Sorry, my mistake. Yes, of course it was Eve wasn't it.

The thing is, the bible says it was the snake that spoke to Eve.
Otherwise when the bible says the snake was the craftiest of all the animals, that would be irrelevant really because what would the snake's craftiness matter if it wasn't the snake itself doing the talking?

I don't think it was a literal snake. I think the snake is a metaphor for Satan, and the whole story is metaphorical.

Do you mean it wasn't verbal, then, and the snake didn't have an audible voice? It was more like some form of telepathy.

Modern day snakes don't have vocal chords. Are you saying the snake in Eden had vocal chords?
