A wall of text that's all about emulators:
An emulator is a program that tries to imitate specific hardware on other hardware. Because of the differences of said hardware, you need to have much better system specs than the console being emulated to get good speeds. some systems are harder to emulate because of the hardware they use. And some systems just flat-out can't be emulated, either because the hardware isn't well-documented enough (Like the iPhone), or the system in question's specs are too much for even the most powerful modern computers to handle (Like the PS3).
