About José Argüelles-Valum Votan

Best known as the initiator of the Harmonic Convergence global peace meditation of 1987, José Argüelles is also the founder of the annual Whole Earth Festival (1970) in California, and one of the originators of the Earth Day concept. Argüelles received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in Art History and Aesthetics in 1969. His teaching career led him from Princeton University to the University of California, Davis, Evergreen State College, Naropa Institute, University of Colorado, and Union Graduate School. He has published numerous books In addition to the international bestseller The Mayan Factor, Path Beyond Technology (1987, 1996) his published work includes: Mandala (1972), The Transformative Vision, Reflections on the Nature and History of Human Expression (1975, 1991), Earth Ascending, An Illustrated Treatise on the Law Governing Whole Systems (1984, 1988, 1996), Surfers of the Zuvuya (1988), Time is the Fourth Dimension, the Call of Pacal Votan (1996) The Arcturus Probe (1996), Time and the Technosphere, The Law of Time in Human Affairs (2002), and the seven volume series, Cosmic History Chronicles, co-authored by Stephanie South: Book of the Throne (2005), Book of the Avatar (2006), Book of the Mystery (2007), Book of the Initiation (2008) and Book of the Timespace (2009) As an artist, he is noted for his contributions to psychedelic art, including the legendary Doors of Perception and his murals at Evergreen State College and University of California, Davis. His life time work on the Mayan calendar codes led him to the discovery of the Law of Time in 1989. Since then Argüelles has devoted himself to the dissemination of the Thirteen Moon/ 28-day calendar and Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Plan, the development of various new time tools (Dreamspell, Telektonon, 7:7::7:7), and various research efforts based on the Law of Time. He is co-founder of the Planet Art Network (1983) and the World Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Movement (1993) and founder and President of the Foundation for the Law of Time (2000). He has also convened numerous world congresses anticipating the biosphere-noosphere transition, including: The First and Second Planetary Congreses of Biospheric Rights, Brasilia Brazil, 1996 and 2006, The World Congress on Peace and Time, Costa Rica, 1999, and the recently convened First Bioregional Noosphere Congresses, world'wide, July 2009. He is currently director of the Foundations Galactic Research Institute where he is engaged in the ongoing research project Noosphere II
