Food for thought
Both sexes don't realize how much they have in common, because people just talk about the opposite one in terms of tropes and stereotypes, and ignore situations that don't fit their preconceptions. And people don't talk about their own feelings and experiences unless there is already an existing framework of stereotypes to validate it. (and most of those stereotypes are brought to you by ad-funded television)

And they never think that some people might have experienced these horrible things and then other people just laugh about it.
Real cases of rape are not funny, but people laugh at them if, for example, it happened to a celebrity they hate. People should think that the things they laugh about can happen to them too.
