I was born in Montreal Canada on July 5th 1972 and would like to share a part of my life. When I was 8 old ,I had no clue what music was all about. My father started to play in a local band and practiced at home. I enjoyed seeing him hit on those drums but still did not understand how and why, until one day in my early teens (13), I took
those sticks and started hitting on those drums. That's where everything started.
I'm now 15, learning bands like Guns and Roses, The Beatles, Elvis Presley and a bit of Led Zeppelin (funny styles but that's how it went) all by listening to tapes and trying my best to sound OK. I formed a small Garage band, covering styles like Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, The Who, etc...
17 years old !!! Playing Metallica on a five piece drum kit is pretty harsh , so I upgraded to a nine piece with an extra bass drum. That was more like it! When I bought that kit in downtown Montreal, I saw a poster of a drummer called Neil Peart from the band RUSH, I was amazed and at the same time curious, so many drums all over him. I bought their album Moving Pictures. Honestly, I was so amazed, surprised and at the same time depressed cause I could not figure out what and how he was playing, so I had to buy their video to see what he was doing and how!!!
That was the first and most important challenge that I could achieve.(By banging my head) For 2 and a half years, I came across the easy stuff. I was so crazy about RUSH, Their style, Their tightness and there amazing techniques.......... Neil Peart has been my mentor, he has showed me so much, I just had to dig and dig and persevere to learn and still Today I learn from him. Thank you so much.
And so on till today, I've managed to fill up my toolbox by learning other styles like, Country, Samba, Triple Swing, Mambo, Tango, Meringue, Waltz, Cha-cha, Rumba, Bossanova, Swing, Ballads, Bluegrass, Gospel, Funk, Blues, Reggae, Soul, R&B, Jazz Fusion. I practice 2 - 3 hours a day and always learn even more and will do so! That's my Job.
I wish I could meet Neil Peart one day! Enjoy the precious moment witch I know will last a blink of an eye and gracefully shake his hand...... ahhhh Ok Ok Ok HUG him and say thanks. lolollll.
