I started my musical life when I was 5 with the violin, after playing for 5 years I stopped, Later when I was 11 I picked up the harmonica. I got okay with it, but 6 months later I saw a dulcimer on ebay. I had seen one or two in tv shows and movies, but this was the first time I was able to learn a little bit about it. I googled mountain dulcimer, and I found the website, Musiciansfreind.com I then got a nice little 60 dollar dulcimer that was great for the first few months, but then my dad surprised me with a beautiful hourglass dulcimer. The guy that made it, unfortunately used the wrong type of woods and messed up on the fret pattern.The dulcimer was one of the nicest looking dulcimers I had ever seen though but, it couldn't make the sound that I wanted. So we found a builder and got a dulcimer from him, the dulcimer had a wonderful sweet sound that I love for the none capo tunes. (you can see this dulcimer in Whiskey Before Breakfast.) This year, I was able to save up enough money for a wonderful yocky dulcimer though, which I absolutely love for my capoed tunes and my finger picking flat picking tunes.
