The pack's howling still sounds a bit mournful to me. The loss of Maya has certainly had an affect on them. I know they don't have a Theory of Mind so are not able to cogitate on Maya's absence but still I wonder...do they miss her...are they aware that she died...or do they carry her in their heart so it's as if she is still with them?
Looking forward to the introduction of pups in 2012...what fun‼

What does the howling mean? Why do they howl?

Again, I'm noticing a correspondence between Lori's vocal tone and the wolves howling vocalizations. They feel how she feels; they "heart" her ♥ How wonderful to have such a close connection with the wild in wolves! I'm curious if/how the selection of 2 new pups will be influenced by the loss of Maya. Will you choose females or males; perhaps one of each? Are there certain criteria you have in mind when selecting pups? I have an inquiring mind and I want to know! What are the factors that are considered when selecting pups or is it a matter of happenstance?

A hauntingly beautiful, and poignant video this week. Condolences to the whole wolf care staff.

Has anyone else noticed the similarity between the wolves low-throated howls and Lorie's vocal tone? Her voice is lower and much less animated than in other videos. I wonder if the pack is aligned with her emotionally and reflecting/mirroring her grief. Just a thought...

I know words cannot heal the wounds brought by Maya's death.

Please know that we all feel saddened. Not just for Maya, but Grizzer and all the wolf care staff.

This kind of desision is always the most tragic. Maya will remain in our hearts for years to come. But we must think of how happy she probably is now. Watching her brother and chasing ravens among the sky.

Though I cannot tribute with money I hope these words may lift the spirits of man, and wolf, for the death of the lovely Maya.

May she rest in peace.

How very sad; it still hurts this morning as I re-read and rewatch the weekly clip. Will be keeping all of the wolf care staff in my thoughts as you move forward with your watch. Thank you for what you do - sharing your work and care for these majestic animals. Peace to all of you.
