Humans are psychologically inclined towards an "us versus them" mentality in a way that transcends rational thought. Even now we are advancing an "us versus them" paradigm where in we, the oppressed, rise up against our oppressors.

The thing is, the oppressors realize this and have more access to peoples' ears, eyes, and minds than we do. They fill their heads with an "us versus them" paradigm that divides those who may otherwise realize their oppression and rise up together against their oppression.
