A little taste of common sense and politics.
About Me:
I am a conservative fiscally, a conservative socially, a hawk in foreign policy, and a strict constitutional constructionist.
I am a Christian. I do believe in God.
I am a capitalist. I believe that the free market is the best system in the world, despite its flaws.
I believe that -- while the US should be careful about its international relations and not be too eager to submit itself to overarching world peace alliances (ie. the United Nations) -- our current duty is to be the torchbearer of freedom around the world. It is our duty, as well as in our best interests, to promote freedom, democracy, stability, and prosperity abroad.
I believe that our fiscal policies must be those of responsibility. Purposeful inflation, deficit spending, unlimited printing of money, and increasing overseas debt are all bad policies and will lead to the destruction of our place in the world unless we can rein in these policies.
I believe in the ideal of limited government. I believe that no government has the mandate, even by majority rule in a democracy, to do anything it pleases. There are purposes for the creation of government, and if the government infringes upon the rights and freedoms of the people or in some other way obstructs its own purpose, there exists a right for the people to abolish or alter it.
I am a federalist and a constitutionalist. I believe that the federal government has no place expressing powers not given to it specifically and explicitly by our Constitution. I believe that what the federal government cannot/should not do should be reserved for state and local governments. The closer to the people local power is, the better the mechanics of democracy work.
I believe in the rule of law, a concept many people seem to have forgotten recently in many political factions. Our society is a society of laws. We create laws so that people follow them. People who don't follow laws are criminals. If a society at large didn't follow the laws it made in the first place, a De Facto state of lawlessness would exist. And YET it has become more and more popular to IGNORE laws because they just happen to be "inconvenient". This is unacceptable by any and all standards. Unless you happen to be a true anarchist and don't believe in laws at all, you cannot simply follow/enforce the laws you like and ignore those you don't. If you broke a law, you are a CRIMINAL, period.
Don't like a law? We live in a free society. Vote for officials. Protest. Use your words. Print pamphlets. Form organizations. Argue, debate, persuade. Change the law if you think it right, but for GOD'S SAKE, do not demean and degrade the power of our laws by ignoring them.
I believe that redistribution of wealth is inefficient, misguided, and harmful. It only serves to destroy productivity while enriching those in charge of doing the redistributing.
Even if it were to work (if redistribution programs actually gave wealth to poor instead of the government giving out soft money to people who won't use it productively and politicians skimming the top for themselves), redistribution of wealth would still be theft and therefore immoral.
I believe that a person's a person, no matter how small. I am firmly pro-life and believe that abortion is only truly and universally acceptable if it places the mother's life in danger. Other situations should be decided on a case-by-case basis, but certainly to kill your child because "it inconveniences you" is wrong and despicable.
