"GlumPuddle... I have issues with you." --Stephen McFeely (Narnia screenwriter)

This channel chronicles my journey anticipating the Chronicles of Narnia film adaptations. I usually post a video after a major news story.

This channel should not be used as a news source. That's what NarniaWeb.com is for. This is just my reaction to the big news stories.

Videos #1-78: Prince Caspian speculation/anticipation
Videos #79-92: Prince Caspian analysis
Videos #93-present: Dawn Treader speculation/anticipation
About Me:

My grandfather taught a college course on Lewis and Tolkien, so I grew up knowing what Narnia was, and the basic story. I became a fanatic in early 2001 when I read the books all the way through for myself. I read the series twice that year. These books bring back the magic of storytime, and like all great childrens literature, the inside is bigger than the outside; CS Lewis had an extraordinary ability to express very complicated concepts using very simple stories. The books undoubtedly changed my life.

In 2002, I heard that a film adaptation of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" was in the works, and I started following the news. Since the books had such a big impact on my life, it was of course incredibly important to me that Director Andrew Adamson get it right.

For four years, I followed the news and anticipated the release of the film. I discovered NarniaWeb.com in May 2004, and it became my primary source for updates. A year later, the NW webmaster, Tirian, invited me to join the news staff, and I have been one of the writers ever since.

So how was the film?

LWW was pretty good, but a little disappointing. There is nothing especially wrong with it. It's just that there is nothing especially right with it. As far as adaptation, they remained quite close to the literal story, but failed to capture the major emotional beats of the book, like Peter's first battle and Aslan's death and resurrection. Still, Hollywood can do FAR worse. They certainly did not butcher the book. Far from it. So, I guess my one-word review for LWW would be "content."

When the anticipation for Prince Caspain started, I decided to start doing a video blog chronicling my journey anticipating the film.

I loved it, and have been making videos ever since.

"Voyage of the Dawn Treader" hits theaters December 10, 2010. Further up and further in!

- I was one of six finalists for Disney's "Ultimate Narnia Fan" competition last year.

- In June 2007, I visited the Prince Caspian set in Prague and interviewed the cast and crew. You can read my reports at NarniaWeb.

Music:
If I like a movie and its score, I'll buy the CD. I do think Harry Gregson-Williams did a fine jobl with the Narnia score. It's not the most interesting soundtrack, but it doesn't have to be. The score serves the story well, which is exactly what a score is supposed to do.

I had the same horrible idea, GPuddle, that they might have the idea to have the WW be the LotGK. I don't like the idea myself, but from a filmmaker's standpoint, it almost (not really, though) makes sense, because one thing filmmakers do is cut and/or composite characters. Because "viewers are morons", the filmmakers might think the audience would be confused by two evil witches. Why not merge them, saving on exposition and motivation etc etc, and why not continue the theme of seducing the men of Narnia, right? Biggest problem: she's dead...I'm not defending them, just trying to think like them.

I would boycott Narnia too if White Witch is in the rest of the films and why she was in Caspian and here in VODT is really confusing me too. Agree 100% about the Death Eaters, and I'm a Harry Potter fan as well as Narnia, Its not hard to make a great film out of great books.

I think the trailer was better than Prince Caspian's and I really hope its better than Movie Caspian.

I feel much more encouraged about the VOTDT after seein Douglas Gresham's interview! :D

What´s up with all this negativity?! The only bad thing about the trailer is that there wasn´t enough Eustace and Caspian and no dragon or sea serpent... But that was expected. From a marketing sense it was very efficient though. This movie needs to gather as many of the viewers of the first movie as possible... I need to see The Silver Chair and The Last Battle!
