http://blogs.wsj.com/econom...

THE REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN PLAYING GAMES WITH AMERICANS LIFE. REMEMBER THIS WHEN YOU GO TO THE POLLS!! NEVER FORGET WHAT THEY PUT THOSE WHO ARE UNEMPLOYED THROUGH.: While hundreds of thousands lose benefits each week, the Senate seems to draw a fiscal line in the sand over unemployment benefits! Two unfunded wars, generous bank and corporate bailouts, and unfunded tax breaks are not a problem for Congress, but once you get unemployment funding in the mix then all kinds of fiscal responsibility come to bear. In fact, look at the graph that follows and you'll see that the Bush tax cuts are the biggest deficit busters and they were passed overwhelmingly by the Republicans (and many Democrats) who are complaining about unemployment funding.

Heres something to be aware of. In a stroke of sheer genius, MD Rep. Hoyer is going to introduce a bill renewing the Bush tax cuts (#1 on the Republicans wish list) AND include a UI extension in the bill. (Man, thats going to drive the Repubs nuts!) If enough people can contact Hoyers office and convince him to include a Tier V in the package, those in need may stand a chance.

WE WILL NOT FORGET!! Next election let Congress feel the sting of the unemployment lines!!! How many years have you paid taxes? 30? 40? Your government bails out bankers and Wallstreet execs using your tax dollars but unemployment is allowed to expire? Congress wasnt worried about the deficit when that big insurance company and Wall Street execs were giving themselves bonuses with taxpayer money! What happened to by the people or for the people? Or are the big campaign contributors the only people who count to congress? They are playing games and going on vacation while you are wondering how to feed your kids? 10% unemployment carries 10% of the vote! Use it!!

Vote them all out of office if their are incumbent this will change the face of Washington, it will not be a victory but some form of resolve in letting them know that your one vote does count. What they rely on is you inability to not vote if the 15million unite and stay united it is a formidable force to reckon with. They gave all of the financial institutions 700 billion also that they could give themselves bonuses and Congress could have paid trips, vote them out of office they all suck.

Unemployment Extension 2010 Additional Benefits or Misunderstood Bill? Millions of Americans are without jobs. Recently, President Obama signed a bill into law extending benefits temporarily for two months, until June 2, 2010. Sounds greatright? Well, it sounds wonderful until you actually look at the content of HR 4851.

HR 4851 or the Continuing Extension Act of 2010 only provides a two month extension of time to file for those in tiers 1-4 of unemployment. The so called 99ers and those that are in need of a tier 5 extension find very little help in the bill.

OF course, many are happy for those that are helped by the bill, which provides benefits until June 2, and keeps the National Flood Insurance program running and offers COBRA subsidies (but only to those who have not exhausted benefits). But, the bill didnt touch on either of the core issues.

1 where are all the jobs? Job creation would go a long way and would be well appreciated by the general public. Many people HATE being on unemployment, but do so because they have to provide for their families. They want to know where all the jobs are.

2- How are the 99ers and the long-term unemployed going to survive? For the most part, those affected are hard working Americans who havent been recipients of welfare and have always paid into the system. These arent lazy people they are hard workers hard on their luck.

So wheres the jobs and wheres the help? With billions pumped into healthcare reform, the wars, overseas, and to Wall Street bailouts what about the bread and butter of America?

Hopefully, a REAL benefits extension will be passed. Ideally, it will be self-funded, but right now the crucial thing is to keep hard working honest Americans afloat.

To show you just how detached the media is from the ugly truth about unemployment, take a look or listen to the following NPR conversation between host Michel Martin, business reporter Tamara Keith, and laid-off programmer Jack Martin. Mr. Martin seems the most aware of whats going on, while the news pros are mumbling the government spiel, especially the part about the unemployment offices not being able to explain to the unemployed what is going on with unemployment. Mr. Warners story is likely one that many of you share and one that should be played in front of Congress on the day they arrive back in D.C. from recess.

Michele Martin asked if the job market was getting better for Mr. Warner because the March jobs report showed a few Census jobs were created! Ms. Keith did her best to pump the March unemployment report, but she failed miserably. Hopefully Mr. Warner gets a job lead from this rather surreal interview. Look in the uploads for interview.

When the U.S. Senate left for its two-week congressional recess, lawmakers left one piece of unfinished business that is now having an effect on unemployed workers across the country.

That business was extending the federal program that provides unemployment insurance benefits to the jobless. Today that program expired.

During the next week, more than 200,000 people will lose their unemployment benefits, and while the Senate has promised to make the benefits retroactive when the program is passed, it does not help the people who counted on that money right now.

Are your unemployment benefits nearing their end date? Are you concerned that they might run out leaving you without a source of income? Are you frustrated that the U.S. Senate did not deal with these problems before it went on its congressional recess?
