This song actually has quite an ordinary progression. 3-4 chords per section, but playing it identically to the piano would require some insane 8-finger tapping skills. But with regular strumming/some string skipping it sounds quite nice, you should try it more than once :)

There's no doubt in the fact that he's a skilled guitarist. But what captivates me with this song has always been the minor progression and primarily the Emadd9 arpeggio. And playing it in a different key I feel ruins the feeling of the song. And to reiterate: His perfomance was good, but the key chosen doesn't do the song justice in my opinion. I'm guessing you've already heard the original, but listen to it again and I hope you'll understand my meaning.

What does that mean? A 7-string it's usually tuned E>B>G>D>A>E>B. But as someone said earlier, he tunes into a scarily low E on the top fret. So it's a standard tuned 7-string with an extra E-string.
