About Me:
鼎艺室内乐团
Arts Sphere was established in mid 2007, with an aim to strongly establish the genre of Chinese chamber ensemble. Within a short period of time, in 2008, the ensemble drew national attention by clinching first prize in the National Chinese Music Competition organized by the Singapore National Arts Council. In the Following year, the ensemble clinched the first prize in the 2009 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales, Instrumental Folk Solo/Group Competition.
A prolific ensemble, Arts Sphere has appeared on BBC, Rondo Media, BBC Radio, Mediacorp. The ensemble champions both traditional and contemporary works.
Besides specializing in repertoire, Arts Sphere is also a music laboratory for avant-garde and cross-disciplinary works. The ensemble currently rehearses in the premises of Whampoa Community Centre.
Comprising of about 20 musicians, Arts Sphere is a constellation of the most impressive local talents in their age groups and top-prize winners in some of the most important competitions locally and internationally. The Musicians are mostly graduates and undergraduates of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
The Arts Sphere Music Director, National Arts Council Cultural Medallion recipient,
Mr Tay Teow Kiat (郑朝吉先生). With more than 30 years of experience, Mr Tay inspires and nurtures the ensemble. Arts Sphere is equally honoured to have Mr Quek Ling Kiong (郭勇德先生) as our principal guest conductor. In addition, Arts Sphere garners influential music exponents as its consultants, namely, Mr Cao Wen Gong (曹文工先生), Mr Richard Adams, Mr Eric James Watson, Mr Phoon Yew Tian (潘耀田先生), Mr Quek Yong Siu (郭永秀先生) and Mr Yeo Siew Wee (杨秀伟先生).
Apart from commissioned works, Arts Sphere actively invites local and overseas composers to write for different genres within the ensemble. Arts Sphere has collaborated with award-winning British composer Mr. Eric James Watson, and local composer Miss Emily Koh. In 2008, Arts Sphere collaborated with China Music Conservatory Lecturer Mr. Cao Wen Gong to Singapore to give a series of master-classes and rehearsals.
With guidance and support from the National Arts Council (Singapore), private patrons and luminaries from the regional Chinese orchestra music scene, Arts Sphere aims to project this Singaporean brand of Chinese chamber music to a worldwide audience and break barriers between the community and the arts. The award-winning ensemble seeks to advocate a spectrum of styles in Chinese music to both the local and global audience.
