Probably having troubles uploading to Youtube - Rooster Teeth has had it before too. I'm pretty disappointed too man, I usually listen to it while doing assignments.
As much as I love this channel, I feel like it's lost the upbeat happiness that brought me here. I didn't start watching until August 2014, so I can't talk much compare to veteran subscribers to this channel but a lot has changed in the last year. Lee, Joe and Trisha are gone and they were my second, third, and fourth favorite members respectively. Their replacements are satisfying, but there's a less feel-good energy to the shows now. I used to laugh out loud watching Table Talk, and I still love it because I love and respect all of their views and answers, but these aren't comedians anymore. They're just some people who occasionally make me chuckle. All of your hosts are funny and I love them (My favorite of the new batch being Sam), but the show needs another fun host. It doesn't need to be a clone of any of your other hosts from before, but someone around the office that is a really good time to be around. This being said, Maude is great and I love her, but she's just almost too much happiness the entire time. I still love the good energy she brings to the table though. Just remember the great comedy element that this channel used to have, as well as the spontaneity that the everyone used to try. Truth or Dare and SourceFed plays doesn't have to be an every week venture but it's great seeing the crew just hang out and play a game. Back to my previous point, nab a comedian out of Groundlings or UCB if necessary, because, while everyone here is great, there's an element missing that I think may be improv now that I think more about it. That may be all that you guys need to bring back just a little bit of what used to be here. I respect all of your future decisions.
Side note - I recognize that Will is a comedian with great timing and delivery, but he does just miss the sudden outbursts of hilarity that the others had. That's not his style I'm assuming. He's great at what he does. I just wanted to throw this in because I'm like "Get a real comedian practicing comedy!" And he be left going "I totally am just that!" I'm not sure if Matt's the same way, I've heard him mention his stand up background before but I'm not sure if he's still practicing.
+JaKoBiE THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who's disapointed in what sourcefed and sourcefed nerd has become. I totally agree with you, for the most part anyway. I love Will, Steve and Reina (is she still working for sourcefed?) and Matt i have learned to like. The new hosts though I'm kind of disapointed with. Sure, I guess Bree is ok but Maude ... I can't explain it but she just feels so fake. I've tried to learn to like her the way I've done with some other sf hosts that've come and gone but every time I see a video with her in it I cringe. I can usually learn to like change if it is for the better, but this ... I don't even know what this is that they call sourcefed and sourcefed nerd anymore. It seems to me that they've lost what made this an enjoyable channel. I don't even remember the last time i watched a video and enjoyed it.
I used to watch Sourcefed every night to keep in the know about the world around me. I understood that not everything on Sourcefed was always serious and that was part of its charm, funny with a unique sometimes sarcastic twist, but at least the meat of most stories were substantial news or something weird and quirky. I feel like the only time I get the news with that funny entertaining sourcefed twist is the weekly roundup with matt. (which is my favorite NEW SF show). because there are usually one or 2 stries of substance. But i mean just the videos from today, "Teen kisses snake and this happened" to me this sounds like a buzzfeed story, i like buzzfeed but i dont want no buzzfeed in my sourcefed, "Abercrombie no longer sexy", and "Are you a basic bitch".(the last title kind of breaks my heart). And tomorrow i plan on coming back to a somber video about the events in Baltimore.(just wait) I love sourcefed, i have been subscribed to sourcefed, sourcefed nerd, i even subscribed to super panic frenzy because most of my favorite shows from nerd were moved there. ive been subscribed since phil launched them, I guess im just a little disappointed that it is becoming like everything else you see on youtube. if i wasn't already subscribed to sourcefed and didn't already feel a sense of loyalty to the channel, i dont think i would be subscribed now. im sorry if this comes off as harsh its not meant to, I just wanted to write this in hopes that it may get back to you so you know that the 5 news stories a day some silly, some actually important are missed. Hoping for the best, ben
This is it. Its a sad day but it has to be done. Unsubing after this comment. I don't know what went wrong, I don't know how to fix it. But I do know this channel just isn't fun and doesn't make me happy anymore. Bye Sourcefed :(
+Flabfactory What went wrong was that they replaced the funniest people on earth with My-ears-cringe-and-my-brain-melts-Maude and I-guess-she's-alright-Bree and took away everything that made sourcefed and sourcefed nerd what it was, like comment commentary, sf plays, regular funny news. They say change is good, but this isn't change. This is destruction
Dear Sourcefed,
This is coming from a viewer that has been subscribed to your channel since it's start with the original three host and the 20 minutes or less segments. As the channel has developed and host have been changed there have been quite a few disturbances to what I feel I subscribed for, but there were a great many things that were created or introduced that made the channel great. I think that one of my main complains, which it seems is a common one, is that this channel has been completely taken over by uninteresting fluff video's with very little to no actual news content. When the channel was originally hosted by Lee, Joe and Elliot the topic of pop news media was handled in what I felt to be the most glorious manner by Elliot Morgon while there was a good handle on serious hard hitting news as well as interesting culture pieces of the day. Most importantly the stories were purposefully different than the PDS as most of the subscribers watched both channels. The channel kept getting better with things like ComCom and Table Talk where we were able to develop a back and forth with the actual channel instead of the sort of text based relationship that came with the PDS. Keeping the changing of host aside (as there is very little that can be controlled about that) the channel I felt did a good job keeping a similar format while still expanding into sourcefed nerd (a brilliant choice as it took the pop and off topic videos to another channel where it could be perfected) only to slowly lose any and all news videos it once had. Table talk became forced and no one seemed like they wanted to be there, there was a large disconnect between a great deal of the new cast (meaning that only certain people could team up together to have chemistry and work rather than an entire ensemble as was the case in most of the other cast) and a great deal of the interesting stories were already being covered on the PDS, as if you'd completely forgotten a great deal of your audience came from his channel. I stayed for the Loop and to support a channel I thought was simply going through transition but it is getting much more difficult to stay. I thought the new format might be a more comedy heavy version of the loop (which I was completely for) but it is proving very disappointing. I watched my PDS then came to your show only to have three out of the five one minute stories be already covered, and with more grace and comedy, in his video. It's frustrating, as a viewer and as someone who has watched you all for so long. I understand that things change and I've been with you through all of it but this is nowhere near the quality that won my vote for best channel at the streamies so long ago.
My views may not mean a great deal but if this decline continues I'm afraid I'll have to put this channel to rest and just be glad that Super Panic Frenzy came out of sticking with it. It's been fun while it lasted host.
Hey sourcefed, it'd be really cool if you didn't spam my sub box with your stupid 50 second videos of one question. Just mash them all up together. It's also funny how you anticipated the back lash by disabling comments on all of those videos.
I've really loved watching you guys these last 3 years.
Really. I did. I've been a subscriber since Philip announced the channel on his main and-
I'm just going to come right out and say it: God damn you've changed.
I've seen hosts come and go, watched updates as stories unfolded, and always had you in my subscription feed as a trusted station for news and information in a world where i don't have time to check much more than YouTube after work.
But, over the last few weeks, you've dropped far off the mark. At one Video a day, and with low-tier topics like "Roommates Forced to Build IKEA furniture at 3 AM" and "Teens Start the Condom Challenge" eating your entire output, I hope you can understand why I miss the old "20 minutes or less" segments, which i always felt had a nice balance of top stories and tabloid scribble.
I'm not unsubscribing. Because claiming to unsubscribe on YouTube is a whiny little bitch thing to do, and, quite frankly, It's not what either of us want.
But I'm not going to look to you as a source quite as much anymore.
Sorry.
Maybe you'll get better. I hope you get better. If you do, just seeing your activity will encourage me to check you out again.
So, until then, You'll be in my subscriptions.
Unsubbed for spam.
Honestly, I stopped watching a long time ago now but I was still subbed for the headlines. I can't be bothered with celebrity news but seeing the headlines made it worth staying subbed... just to have some sort of idea who ____ was, if/when it came up.
I hope everyone from the original cast is doing well. The current content is not worth the space in my sub feed.
i don't get it how come you never talk about how to best forget about your ex i have a big problem with this and i found my solution but it was 6 years that a drag that along.
Maybe it's just me...but Sourcefed's appeal is becoming less for me. I'm sure the entire staff of Sourcefed is awesome but Eliot and Joe leaving has left a hole that for me isn't being filled. Steve is awesome...but a bit hard to take seriously. Lee is awesome....but strangely absent most of the time. Trish is awesome and has done a good job of taking over the female lead but could really use more help from Lee.
Steve is just in over his head with no Decent Lead people for the Guys. I mean the guys that are there are cool and all....but too me they just don't fill the shoe of a lead anchorperson. I really just can't take any of them seriously.
This isn't intended to be hateful, but rather concerned about where Sourcefed is going and if Phil is really paying attention anymore. Again this is my personal opinion and not intended to be a slight on anyone working there. It's just that we are not all cut out to be lead anchor people, I know I'm sure not. It takes a very special charismatic type of person to fill those shoes properly
I actually came to the channels discussion to see if anyone else felt this way about it too, and yes, source fed is not the same.
It is mainly because we have all lost three of some of the most funniest people that are on the internet, but also because the way the show is going now, is not the same as what it was. Going from having five small and big news stories a day to four during the week and the fillers on the weekends may be what is hurting this channels appeal. I know that it is hard working behind the scenes of the shows, and what is put into this show is pure amazing, but maybe the effort is too spread out between the home Sourcefed channel, and the Sourcefed nerd channel.
I know my suggestions may have already been tried, or maybe even been used, but if you have hosts the specialize in doing news on the nerd channel, and ones that specialize on doing news on the home channel, it would be much easier, with your head not being all over the place, and sure, you can crossover to the other channel every other week or on the weekends.
Another way to lighten the load could be to outsource the writing of the scripts to the community. Say a show every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, highlighting all the article or videos that people have written. This would be a great way to lighten the load even further, and would give the presenters and writers of Sourcefed much more time to write and proof read their own stories and shows. There is the issue though of plagiarism, and fraudulent stories. Which, could both be held to account by bringing up a terms and conditions for the show (Don't make it too long, only a summary or t-chart of what too/not do), as well as the required use of references at the end or throughout a written story.
Furthermore, paying attention to what is hot and what is not is a big deal. Using the analytical tools provided by Youtube, and other sources can be crucial to the survival of a website, channel, or even multi-billion dollar businesses. Using word clouds, find what an audience talks most about, and what they think, if the main words used are negative or attacks towards the video, the audience may not want to see this type of video. if the main words used are positive or in praise to the video, the audience must want to see more of the video, or has been distracted y a cat video in the second tab. Using like/dislike counts and percentages, and tracing where they have gone can be a very eye opening to trends in the past, and if this idea is a good idea to keep going, or better to scrap. Lastly on this, view counts can be very misleading, especially when a title name of the video or even the thumbnail of the photo is provocative, this can also be very detrimental for other sources of data in general as people will be more than likely to lash out at a video advertising "WOMEN'S BREAST IMPLANTS ARE BIG" with an image picked for provocative appeal, which is really just a host talking about how breast implants have grown in size over the past few months and not showing at any instance, the thumbnail promised. I suggest maybe using either witty titles, or alliterating in titles, like a big ol' fancy newspaper does, it adds for a nice ring to it, and can be seen as funny too, providing less in the way of out lash against this wonderful channel. Display content, that the viewers like, that the viewers love, and what the viewers want, yes, but don't forget to make content that you enjoy making also, that is the main thing about Youtube. Personally I enjoy the SCIENCE! videos and the ones that are truly informative eg. NK "missiles" and the global conflicts in the middle east, as compared to celebrity news, which does seem to be more than certainly dry for humor and appeal. The smaller, more local and international stories are also great ones to play with, I personally recommend anything about Australia (Nationalism!!!)
If help is needed at all with compiling data into information I would be more than happy to help. I must also stress that all of what I have said is an opinion, and I am not speaking for, or expressing the feelings or concerns of anyone, bar myself.
I'll finish up with saying thank you for what this channel is, was, and will become. It is amazing what has been done, and the amount of effort that has been shown throughout the course of this channel. Give yourself a pat on the back.
