Finally we have a Date for the next OSFirstTimer video (or maybe even two!). Unfortunately as some of you may know I've moved to a 55 hour per week job (sometimes it's more as I have to do work on the weekend and late nights as well...). Thus maintaining a channel has become almost impossible especially with Diana working on the weekends thus not being available to be filmed. Anyway, from December 25th to January 10th I will be off work for a Christmas break however I will be working on a course related to my job at the time. My aim is to get this finished by January 6th which is possible based on the work load as long as I work on it for at least 6 hours a day during my break. Diana and I WILL BE MAKING AND UPLOADING OUR NEXT OSFIRSTTIMER VIDEO ON JANUARY 10TH 2016 100% (it not it will be uploaded before that day). After that it's back to work again unfortunately but the good news is that we now get public holidays off (Australian Public Holidays such as 26th Jan, Australia day) so we will be attempting to make videos on the public holidays.
So unfortunately yes, videos are going to be rare now days but we have not given up. If we give up one day I will tell you guys that we have finished and won't be making more videos but at this point that is not the case. I'll need to stick with my 55 hour per week job as I need to make mortgage repayments on my property which as you can imagine are big (I'm talking over $800 per week). Youtube doesn't earn me the required income thus why I need to have a different job. My other job 39 hours per week earned by $675 per week which wasn't enough to make the payments however it gave me the time to make the Youtube videos.
One day, Once I've payed off my mortgage I WILL BE WORKING ON MAKING VIDEOS OFTEN FOR MY ASTRALPHASER YOUTUBE CHANNEL with a focus on gaming through history (1970's 80's 90's and now across various platforms (e.g. Atari 2600). The mortgage will take several years to pay off though but once it's paid off I can get a less demanding job that gives me time to make youtube videos on the side.
Thank you for staying subscribed and loyal, we have not given up and we apologize for the lack of videos this year.
Can you guys do a tutorial on how to safely destroy a virtual computer? I want to do it and make sure and viruses and such don't get on my real computer.
Due to rewiring the internet in our house we had no time for an OSFirstTimer video. The next episode however (upload next sunday) will feature SymbOS 2.0 (2007) which is an 8 bit operating system made recently and designed to look like windows but written to run on an old 1980's computer. This will surly be an interesting episode ;) Look out for it next week.
I am considering doing a live series on this OSFirstTimer channel called "Adventures in Arch Linux - Uncut". Basically there would be a live event where you guys see and hear in 240p what I am doing with arch Linux and comment on stuff I should try in Arch Linux. I would then compile a 720p video of my screen and hd camera (only join videos without editing) and upload it as an episode. It would go from part 1 setting up an environment to part 10 and on trying out cool software. Should I do this?
Will there ever be a new video? Yikes, Christmas is the worst... such a busy time of year I just can't get my mum to try out the next os. For those wondering the next video will be "USU Linux 8.3 (2013)" which will be testing the language barrier. Can mum navigate an operating system that's in another language? We will see... EVENTUALLY!
+OSFirstTimer I think you should try out some vb.net OS overlays for windows, one amazing looking one is HexadecimalOS, even if you think its a bad idea i recommend you checking it out and considering doing vb.net/c#/c++ windows overlay OS's!. thanks. Tom
I don't mean to be a pest and I love your channel but when are you bringing out a new video? and also I'm properly speaking for alot of your subs if we could have 720p videos but maybye more often because its been a month since your last vid, thanks. Tom.
XP loses support on April 8th 2014. Since Diana still uses XP and Elementary OS on her laptop we should update it. If she gets windows 8 for $150 in Australia it will be useless since the laptop is slow and she's not allowed to change the OS. What do you guys think getting an Alienware 14 laptop (cheapest)? Wouldn't it be awesome and fast for her and cool to see her compare it to her old laptop on OSFirstTimer? I just hope we earn enough through the ads at the beginning of OSFirstTimer videos ;)
The official date for the next OSFirstTimer video is December 31st 2013. You will see a video on the day or if you're lucky even earlier of USU Linux 8.3.
ShiftOS (my new OS game) 0.0.4 will be coming out very soon featuring 30 buyable upgrades for the base version of ShiftOS you experienced in 0.0.3. Remember that codepoints for 0.0.3 wont cross over to 0.0.4 due to security/hacking issues in 0.0.3. 0.0.4 - 0.0.6 save files will be cross compatible even though starting is a new game is recommended.
I've got Good News and Bad News (trust me though, the good news is really good). The bad news is that Diana won't be available to make a video this Anzac day (we usually make videos on public holidays in Australia). Now get ready for the good news. As you know we have insane work schedules. I work 55 hours a week (50 hours at work but I have take home work as well) in partnership with the local council (nothing to do with Youtube or video making). Diana works multiple jobs totalling her work hours to just over 70 hours per week. In early 2017 I'll be dropping down to a part time position giving me 2 extra days a week off (to make videos). Diana will drop down to a 40 hour work week. This will give both of us enough time to make a video EVERY FORTNIGHT. In otherwords 2 videos a month (one OSFirstTimer original and an advanced episode). I'll also be working on AstralPhaser and a secret channel (initially). As you know I'm paying off my mortgage on my one bedroom apartment in Sydney and gosh are the repayments high! I've been saving up whatever I can in the bank to support me for a whole year (2017) with a part time position. The goal is to move to YouTube full time but that all depends on the success of my channels (ad revenue) otherwise in 2018 I have to move back to a full time position and go back to rarely making videos again. Anyway look forward to a video packed year in 2017 and sorry about the lack of an April 25th video.
The next episode of Adventures in Arch Linux is up and its a lot better than the first. It features the success of being able to record the screen directly in vokoscreen. Here it is: Adventures in Arch Uncut - Ep 1 - Vokoscreen
Sorry about no video today due to my sickness last week (one should come up next week). As a sorry I have released an early version of a future game I am developing called "ShiftOS". Check out the ShiftOS 0.0.3 release video or download ShiftOS here: ShiftOS 0.0.3 Dev Update
ShiftOS is inspired by operating systems evolving throughout history and allows you to have your own operating system (ShiftOS) that you can earn codepoints to spend on graphical upgrades, increased functionality and new programs. Currently there is no shifting/upgrading as of yet but the base ShiftOS functionality is there in it's pre-upgrade state to check out.
Hope you all enjoy ShiftOS and subscribe to the ShiftOS Youtube channel for more dev updates.
+Christopher Matias It's very different from Histacom... the only simularity between the gamse is that they are both set within a virtual operating system.
I've decided Adventures in Arch Linux will not be live due to how it will slow down and hinder the focus of the video. Instead comment at the following link on what software, window manager and so on I should try out for each episode. Here is the episode 1 section where you can comment on what I should do in the first episode: http://osfirsttimer.freeforums.org/adventures-in-arch-linux-episode-1-planning-t2348.html
i'm the one who emailed her, she asked if i had any ideas that i suggest or send philip an encouraging email.
pph
I suggested that (at least for some episodes) go back to the 'shaky cam' as Philip said in a TerrifiedMum video (i think) that it take about an hour to put up the green screen and then philip has to go into Vegas and apply the chroma key and align the two video tracks so that what Diana does is what is on the computer screen recording.
If anyone else has any suggestions you can put them down (i can have a look and email her them.
Lol, vokoscreen is the the AUR, that's why I couldn't access it. If you want to see more adventures in arch and the upcoming episode 1 then check out that other channel. The first episode is labeled episode 0 because it's unworthy of a number title.

Forgot download package-query and install and then yaourt you must download and decompress on their own folders and compile using the command "makepkg -s "
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/yaourt/
simplescreenrecorder is easy to use .... also AUR.
Hey everyone. Bad news, Adventures in Arch is most likely canceled. I tried and completely failed to make my concept come to life in a fun way. My main issue was being unable to install vokoscreen with pacman which was going to be the point where the footage transitioned from being a dodgy camera filming screen situation to a proper screencast. You are free to check out my failed attempt here as I am too embarrassed to upload the video to OSFirstTimer: http://youtu.be/rSCQwCEGrlk
Ever had a secret? What about a secret channel??? Well, I've got one that I'd like to share with you all now (will reveal it next month in an OSFirstTimer video too). It's goal is to track the growth of all of my 11 channels, create new channels and experiment with different types of videos to see what becomes the most popular while also following a goal to make $1,000,000 on YouTube within the next 10 years. I'm not doing it entirely for the money though, I'm doing it as I'm passionate about making videos however it is fun to see the profits rise every month. Do note the OSFirstTimer and TerrifiedMum profit is not counted in these videos as I wanted to start off fresh with smaller channels and eventually watch them grow. I'm not hiding anything though so I'll mention it here, OSFirstTimer earns about $300 (Australian dollars) per month which is split between Diana and I. Anyway, here is the secret channel (episode uploaded on the first day of each month to track the new stats): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2wLfbZrHQOxP2e5zkxYRjA
As someone who tried to explain more than once the internal workings of the OS to his parents I really like to see the dynamic here with your parents (especially your Mother - kudos for her by the way, some of these OS's are not easy). :-)
Really like your channel and looking forward for more experiments!
