My Trip to India - Part III: Kerala - The Elephants of Thekkady
by cookingwithalia 97,709 views
Song: Edi Aa Vennela from the Movie: Manchivadu - Singer : Karthik
Kerala is an indian state located on the Malabar coast of south-west India and it is nicknamed as "God's Own Country". We are here in Thekkady, which is located 185 kilometers from Cochin International airport. It took us 6 hours of driving to reach here -- but it was so worth it. Thekkady has the most dense, evergreen, amazing forests I have ever seen in my life. It is considered a heaven for natural spices and tea plantations. It is also the home to herds of elephants -- so of course, I had to come here!

In 1946, the Pasha of Marrakesh granted Helen Sebillon-Larochette, and her daughter, Suzy, the right to open La Maison Arabe, the first restaurant open to foreigners in the medina (old quarter of the city), and provided a servant from his nearby palace to teach them the intricacies of Moroccan Cuisine.
Famous people who used to come here included Winston Churchill, Charles De Gaulle, and Jackie Kennedy!
When I heard about this place, I had to come visit and learn some authentic Moroccan recipes from their cooking school.
So if you want to travel in time and discover the enchanted world of Moroccan cuisine and architecture, then this place is for you!

My Trip to Paris III - Latin Quarter & Notre Dame de Paris
by cookingwithalia 19,909 views
The area of the left bank is possibly the most stimulating in Paris. The Latin Quarter takes its name from the Latin spoken by students of the Sorbonne until the Revolution. The streets continue to buzz with bookshops, cafes, and jazz clubs.
The Cathedral of Notre-Dame is the "heart" of Paris, both geographically and spiritually. It contains France's largest organ and it was the monument that inspired the "Huntchback of Notre-Dame" by Victor Hugo.
This area is a must see when you are in Paris!

My Trip to Paris IV - Farmers Market & Versailles
by cookingwithalia 11,281 views
Saint Mandé farmers market, a popular outdoor produce market near the 12th arrondissement in Paris, has a lot of fresh food, fish, meat, rotisserie, cheese, olives, cookies, flowers, etc. It is a vibrant place that awakens all your senses and makes you imagine all the dishes you could prepare with all these fresh ingredients. We bought bread, great french cheese and fruit, and head towards Versailles for a picnic!
The Chateau of Versailles is one of the most beautiful places I have seen in my life. It is a magnificent palace that takes you back in time where the kings of France lived in extreme luxury.
I hope you can visit both places if you come to Paris.

My Trip to Paris V - My Favorite Things
by cookingwithalia 11,334 views
This is the last video about my trip to Paris. The things I loved the most in Paris were: bakeries & pastries (oh my god...), petit pain au chocolat, unique food shops (I just showed 2 places, but Paris is full of them), world music in the metro (I loved it, every time I took the Metro, there was someone playing a different genre of music), and.... everything! I love this city; it is unique, mysterious, and has something for everyone.
This trip would not have been the same without the people I love the most: Amit, Rim, and Eric.
This video is dedicated to them. Thank you for the love you guys fill my life with... Alia -

Mecca - My trip to Saudi Arabia Part I
by cookingwithalia 54,571 views
Mecca, the holiest city in Islam is only 70 km from Jeddah where I was staying for a few weeks. Mecca is where Prophet Mohammed was born and where the Quoran was composed.
I was surprised to see that Mecca was actually a big city, in my mind, I always thought that it was a small holy place with the Kabaa.
The Kabaa is a cubical shaped building, covered with a beautiful black cloth embroidered with gold Quranic verses.
All Muslims around the world face the Kaaba during prayers, no matter where they are
When performing piligrimage, Muslims walk around the Kaaba 7 times while reciting verses. When reaching the spot of the Black Stone (in the eastern corner of the kabaa), the piligrims salute it. It is believed that this stone fell from Heaven.
the piligrims also drink ZamZam water, the holy water that was revealed to Hagar, Abraham's wife, when she desperately was looking for water in the desert.
The mosque within the Kabaa location is beautiful. Its arches interlace in an infinite design.
More than 15 million Muslims visit Mecca every year and I was amazed how clean and spotless it was!
The prayer call has began, I'll let you listen to it.... -

As part of the IBD course (International Business Development) at Haas School of Business (UC Berkeley), Jane, Melissa, Vanessa, and I got to work in a project with Dar Al Hekma (a women university) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. We worked on the project during the entire semester then went to Jeddah for 3 weeks to implement it. We had the most amazing time ever! We met the most hospitable, generous, smart people there. This is a short video highlighting our top 10 facts about Jeddah.

Mehdia - the Land of Fresh Fish. Morocco Trip.
by cookingwithalia 3,809 views
Mehdia is a beautiful coastal town near the city of Kenitra , 30 km north-east of the capital of Morocco Rabat . It is known for its fishing port and of course, fish market! You can get the freshest most beautiful fish in this market: sardines, whiting, shrimp, prawns, squid, crab, sole,...they have it all! Outside the market, there are people specialized in cooking the fish you just bought.
They can prepare it for you anyway you want: grilled, fried, or even in a tagine!
I love grilled fish! and all you have to do is put some salt on it and grill it... it is so fresh that no other spices are needed! ohhhh yum...
Mehdia is one of those places that will make your heart beat. It will remind you of slowing down, taking a moment, and simply enjoying the view... -

The Sand Dunes of Marzouga
by cookingwithalia 2,419 views
Merzouga is a village in the Sahara desert in Morocco,. We drove 6 hours from marrakech, though hills, the winding roads of Tishka, the kasbahs around ourzazate, oases, flat lands, even more beautiful oases, and finally our hotel with a magic door opening towards the famous sand dunes of Merzouga.
The view is just breathtaking--- warm colors, and space... lots of space and lots of camels!
Riding a camel is something else, front, back front, swing, and you are on top of the world!
This is Julie, getting excited to ride a camel for the first time. And this is Jane who equates riding a camel to her aerial dancing routines!
And all we go, slowly, in our mini-caravane, to our tents where we are spending the night!
The sun is setting... it's so beautiful. time stops.
In the tents, our guide served us hot Moroccan tea. We ate, we watched the stars in a perfect sky, and played music...
In the morning, we woke up early to watch the sunrise... That is one unforgettable experience.
This is the lead camel, we nicknamed him "jojo"
it's time to leave - the caravane is moving
Breakfast was waiting for us at the hotel but not just for us!
Talking about camels, have you ever had camel milk before? It's creamy, nutty, and delicious!
and we were not the only ones who liked it, baby camel LOVED IT!!!
oh baby camel... we want to take you with us!!!
and off to continue our journey in the south of Morocco...
